Every time I see anything Mister Miracle related online, I get so impatient to read it. But, I'm also content in my decision to trade wait Tom King's titles so I can take each one all in as a single work. But, yeah, this is my favorite Kirby tribute art. I'm hit or miss on Mitch's art, but I adore how he draws Scott Free and company.
I've been very bad at keeping up with comics lately but MM has been such a treat that I've stayed current on it. I think you're making a good decision on trade waiting. I would also put money on it that you'll adore the issues Mitch worked on for Batman. His Catwoman issues specifically are special.
I did mostly love what he did for Batman, though honestly, that's where some of the work I'm mixed on happened, too. lol. Something about the way he colored himself in the Catwoman rooftop sequences alternated between gorgeous and a little weird for me. Not completely sure why. Man, though, he completely nailed Bruce and Selena's facial expressions. That one 6-panel page where they just say "I love you" to each other is fantastic.
Though, both Mitch Gerads and Mikel Janín are unfairly judged by me in Batman for coloring their own work in a series predominately colored by Jordie Bellaire with a little Elizabeth Breitweiser. Jordie is the best colorist in the business right now; she even made David Finch look great. And, Bettie's work w/ Lee Weeks is stunning. It's just unfair for anyone to be compared to that work.
Ok so it's probably just because she makes me think of Buffy with a trash mouth, but Elsa Bloodstone is becoming like my favorite Marvel character out of nowhere. I hadn't heard of her before that Dr Strange Damnation series and now she's kicking ass on Jessica Jones.
The red looks so sharp. I'm too poor to go wild with the commission life, but I'm so very happy to own this character by this artist.
Man that just reminds me how much I love that Spider-Woman costume is. I’ll be so pissed if they give her a new costume anytime soon. Especially anything that harkens back to her classic costume.
They sell Disney Princess comics at Target now. My two year old daughter still loves her Little Mermaid comic from FCBD.
Read all 7 volumes of Giants Days recently. I had read the first a while ago so I quickly went through that. Read the first two trades for Shade the Changing Girl, as well. Enjoyed Giant Days a ton and thought Shade was interesting. Currently working on Batgirl by Kelly Puckett and Scott Peterson. Has anyone read this? I don't know a ton about Casandra as Batgirl, but I'm liking it after reading the first few issues.
Hey, we gotta get our Venom further reading recs ready! Some suggestions: Venom: Lethal Protector by Michelinie and Bagley Venom: Dark Origin Spider-Man: New Ways to Die by Slott & Romita Jr (Anti-Venom) Did people like the initial Venomverse enough to throw that in? Mike Costa's Venom, perhaps? Rick Remember's Venom would be good, even though it stars Flash Thompson. And, as with the last couple further reading posts, I'm interested in including a current creator owned comic fans of Venom would dig.
So I've been reading Ultimate Spider-Man from the beginning and loving it. Except for the covers. Why are they so dull?
I highly dislike Eddie Brock Venom and think the character was much more interesting as Flash Thompson.
I’m going to do a 7 day free trial on DC Universe starting this weekend. Anyone using it? Any essential recs for the comics they have available that I should check out? I’m planning on reading some Swamp Thing for the first time, and I hope to take in a few episodes of Lois and Clark haha.
Today's apparently "Batman Day." Shout out to the best Batman comics I've read: Year One, those Morrison Batman & Robin issues that Quitely drew, and all of Tom King's unreasonably fantastic work with the character. Also, shout out to the two best non-comic versions of the character: The Animated Series & '66. Also, shout out to my unpopular opinion that The Dark Knight Rises is the most fun Nolan film to watch, and my other unpopular opinion that (outside of some super gross content sprinkled throughout) Dark Knight Strikes Again is an underappreciated piece of deconstructed DC Comics storytelling.
Yeah I’m looking forward to checking it out. I’m playing around with DC Universe now though to see what all they have since they offer a one week trial.
