Just got Comixology Unlimited, looking forward to crushing tons of comics! Currently really enjoying New Avengers: Everything Dies. I want to get into Max Bemis’ Moon Knight run next , but where should I start to get a good intro to the character ? I assume Max’s take is not the norm ?
Finally posted that Infinity War "Further Reading" post. Sorry for the hold up, y'all. @Henry, can you edit it into that thread's first post? That post is already pretty big as is, but I think it'd be fair to just everything below the trailer out of it and throw the recommendations below that.
Now that we've done that... Are we gonna do a "Further Reading" for Deadpool 2? Dang rapid movie releases...lol.
I don't want to derail any Avengers talk, but as someone very new to comic books I had an off topic question. Has anyone read The Batman Adventures? I was a huge fan of Batman the Animated Series and these comics are in the same style and universe. This is something that really intrigues me but before going to track them down I wanted to make sure they weren't awful. I am sure there are plenty better for the comic purest but anyone that read this series have a review?
Lol this Gift story in Batman is one of the craziest Batman comics I've ever read. First issue was great but they turn the insanity up to 11 for this one.
The Avengers talk has mostly happened in the Avengers: Infinity War thread, but even if it were happening in this thread, derail away! I personally haven't read any of the comics set in that world other than Batman: Harley & Ivy, which I mostly really liked, though there was something kinda fetish-y about the handling of those characters that rubbed me the wrong way. But yeah, that collection and Batman Adventures: Mad Love are both by The Animated Series' Paul Dini and Bruce Timm themselves. And, a lot of the Batman Adventures comics were drawn by Ty Templeton, who has a cartoony style perfect for that world. So if you're big fan of that series, you should also at least enjoy the comics as well. Oh, and you should look into Dark Night: A True Batman Story. I haven't read it yet myself, but I've heard universally good things. It's written by Paul Dini about getting mugged and severely beaten during the time that he was a writer for The Animated Series. P.S.: If you're gonna buy multiple things at once, look into InStockTrades.com; they have really good details, like 40% or so off basically everything, and free shipping for orders of $50 or more. A few of us here really like buying our stuff from there (perhaps occasionally a bit too much, lol).
Unfortunately, in some comic nerd circles, a lot of questions are considered dumb questions, lol. But, we're pretty chill here.
I feel like comics are super daunting and confusing so I can understand people having questions about pretty much anything comics related.
YAS. There is definitely very bad Deadpool books and very good ones. Gerry Duggan’s long run has been amazing. Daniel Way’s was not good at all. Rick Remender did a good job with him in his Uncanny X-Force book from years ago.
What individual, accessible Deadpool collections/graphic novels should be picked? Seems like he has a crap ton of material, lol. Duggan's run alone lasted years. (And that's not factoring in possibly including a Cable or Domino-centric collection.) If you wanna contribute to the Deadpool 2 Further Reading, and you have a specific book in mind, let me know what you wanna talk about. And if you wanna contribute and don't know what to pick, hopefully someone else in the thread has a suggestion. (My personal experience reading Deadpool is very limited.)
Deadpool Classic vol 1. This is the original Deadpool series and is considered a classic and the definitive Deadpool book. Spider-Man/Deadpool vol 1: Isn’t It Bromantic. This is a current series and is hilarious. The writing is excellent with joke after joke. Deadpool vol 1: Dead Presidents. This is the start of Gerry Duggan’s epic run and is still going on. At this time, it was co-written by comedian Brian Posehn. Deadpool vol 3: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. This is the third book in the series I just mentioned, but it is my favorite Deadpool story. Captain America and Wolverine help him find a daughter he never knew he had. It’s pretty serious stuff for a Deadpool series and really emotional. X-Force: A Force to be Reckoned With. This collects the last issues of New Mutants and the first issues of X-Force. Deadpool first appeared in these issues and Shatterstar is in here and he’s in the movie too, soooooo Also, there’s Deadpool and Cable, which I hear is a great series and he’s in the movie too...but I haven’t read it lol.
I finished reading X-Men X-TINCTION AGENDA. Idk why that capitalized but I won't change it. It was a fun book, but towards the end it was really boring, like just kill Hodge already. I started Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire last night .Its really quick paced so far! I like it!
I've read a few and enjoyed them. Very reminiscent of B:TAS while not being complete ripoff. While the art is no Bruce Timm the similarities are there that it's enjoyable enough. I'm sure this is several days too late but figured I'd share my thoughts.
