H/S deal with some stuff that happens in the final arc of the original series, not much but enough that if you like reading a series in order you'll want to finish the og series first.

Black Monday Murders is Jonathon Hickman so you know know it's epic as hell. It basically looks at the idea that there have been elite families controlling America's stock market through demon worship. The narrative covers nearly a century, though focuses on the present. I definitely recommend picking up Vol 1. It's also a great deal because the issues are usually 50 pages long. Higher level horror that demands you think.

I've been reading alot of actual books lately but that's about to dwindle with a new baby in 4 weeks.

Figure it'll be easier to read comics while delirious

Oh that's not what I anticipated at all, not sure how interested I am but I might give it a shot.

I was hoping more like murder mystery, serial killer, Nailbiter, etc.

How's Joshua Williamson's stuff lately? Still writing Aquaman?

I'll keep thinking and let you know if I think of anything that fits that, I've read an insane amount of comics in the last year so it's hard to remember off the top of my head, lol.

Williamson's been writing Flash. He seems to be doing pretty damn good for himself over there in DC, he's getting in on all the major events as well and has his own event coming up with The Flash War. He's still writing Birthright which has always been fine imo. He started a new series called Deathbed for Vertigo, issue 1 was ok, I'm around for it.

If you're wondering if he's touched the quality of Nailbiter the answer is no, haha.

EDIT: Crosswind might sort of scratch the murder mystery itch, but not in a Nailbiter way.

another EDIT: Gideon Falls will probably be perfect for you but again, that just started.

This is all super helpful, I appreciate it!

Is Crosswind and Gideon Falls through Image?

Was wondering what Gail had been up to in recent years.

I knew he was writing Flash, don't know why I said Aquaman.

    How was The Button event?

Yeah they're both through Image and Crosswind is among Gail's best.

I loved the Button, I'm all in on the DC/Watchmen stuff and so far I've loved all of it. Make sure you read Flashpoint first, there's some really satisfying emotional conclusions.

Flashpoint was actually the first comics event I read, I'd like to read it again though.

Does it matter that I haven't read The Watchmen or really know anything about them?

Not for the Button but definitely for Doomsday Clock, which would be pointless. I mean you should just straight up read the Watchmen because it's a masterpiece haha.

The Button is way more Flashpoint than Watchmen.

Kraven's Last Hunt is typically towards the top of any given best Spider-Man stories list. Some other good stuff that may or may not be what you're looking for:

Spider-Man: Blue is the best distillation of classic Spidey and, by extension, possibly my personal favorite comic. Focuses on the Peter/Gwen/MJ love triangle and has some fun, big, bright superheroics.

Spider-Man: Torment is a very 90s story, perhaps the quintessential Todd McFarlane Spidey story. Really big and bloody and dark, but still very Spider-Man. If you liked the psychological vibe of Kraven's Last Hunt, Torment isn't nearly as nuanced, lol, but it succeeds in some similar ways in terms of pacing and tension.

It'd also be worth checking out more 80s Spidey stuff, considering your enjoyment of both Kraven's Last Hunt and Reggie & Me (which was written by classic Spidey writer/editor Tom DeFalco). There's the two volumes of The Complete Alien Costume Saga, and also anything you can find by Roger Stern (especially the story "The Boy Who Collects Spider-Man"; forget what collections besides the out-of-print Roger Stern omnibus have that issue).

Oh, and of course there's Ultimate Spider-Man. You can either start at the beginning, with Bendis and Bagley on high school Peter, or jump on with the start of the Miles Morales era.

@Vivatoto is your guy for that.

I don't read horror, but I do know that the manga creator Junji Ito is supposed to be the best horror creator in comics. Emily Carroll's Through the Woods is supposed to be great, too.

I’d recommend Harrow County by Cullen Bunn. That has at least two trades out that I know of.

Also, Wytches by Scott Snyder and Jock. And Severed, also by Snyder.

Oh yeah, and Gail Simone's Clean Room is cool. I own the first trade but haven't read it yet, but I've heard good things about it, and a guy I recommended it to because he wanted something horror really liked it. The Jon Davis-Hunt in that series is great.

Everything mentioned already is gold, Clean Room and Nailbiter especially are just perfect.

I recently read Grant Morrison's Nameless which is probably my favorite horror comic I've read, think Event Horizon maybe a little Alien, super complex and surreal, and haunting in the way that the best horror stories are. Before that I would have said that Grant Morrison's horror masterpiece was Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth, and I know you're thinking how can a superhero story be legit terrifying? Well Grant Morrison is the answer. It's perfect.

Becky Cloonan's Southern Cross would be another thing to grab if you're into sci-fi/spacestation/Alien-style horror.

Babyteeth is working on it's second arc right now. I love everything about it. Think Rosemary's Baby, a young woman gives birth to the anti-christ. Excellent characters.

Black Monday Murders is great and I know a few others in here would rec it too. It's Jonathon Hickman who's pretty well loved. Basically the American stock market is controlled by elite families who worship demons.

Underwinter is also very surreal, a group of musicians are used in a ritual to prevent the end of the world. The art is insane.

I think Redlands should be out on trade soon if it already isn't, it was pretty good. Witches in Florida.

Something like Revival or Postal would be classified as horror, but there's nothing really "scary" about them, they just deal with horror elements, like Revival being the same plot as that French show where people come back from the dead and Postal is a town run by killers.

Crossed is also for a very specific taste...It's Garth Ennis at his most fucked up. It's 28 days later but with more gore and sex than you can imagine. Tasteless, grindhouse fun.
