Finished up Morrison’s Batman run. Enjoyed it overall. I get why Morrison might not be for everyone but I think his style worked well for this. Now I think the only Batman books I own and haven’t read yet are Heart of Hush and Hush. Still plenty of other unread trades, though, so I have no idea what I’ll read next just yet.
I got 15 trades. I probably won’t get to them in a long time, but still. I don’t like how they have some vol 2’s but no vol 1’s for some series.
No Surrender so far feels like the last hurrah of all these newer Avengers before they’re all shuffled back off the board for the “big 3” team. It sucks because I loved these weirder squads. Rogue leading the Unity Squad has been so good, it felt like natural growth for the character. I don’t want her going back to just being an X-man. Same with Sunspot’s New Avengers/U.S.Avengers, although I liked them a lot better when they had Wiccan, Hulkling, Power Man, and White Tiger.
I'm excited to get the New Surrender hardcover when it comes out. It looks like a really fun ensemble adventure. Jason Aaron's Avengers looks really cool, and I do think that scaling back on Avengers books is a good idea, but I do wish Aaron's Avengers were on a strict monthly schedule with just one companion monthly series. Going to only one Avengers series on a somewhat accelerated schedule (I don't think it's 100% twice monthly) is a bummer. In my opinion, the best companion series would be a relaunched "West Coast Avengers" by Kelly Thompson featuring a nice mix of under utilized Avengers. Rogue, Beast, Kate Bishop, America, Monica Rambeau, etc... Could be a pretty cool series. Maybe we'll get something like that next year, after a season of streamlined Avengers publishing.
Big 2 "exclusive" contracts seem to generally accommodate prior commitments. (See: Snyder's Wytches.) So Sex Criminals should be fine, but don't expect any new Image, DC, Archie, etc. work anytime soon.
Are there any Spidey stories that are as good or better than Kraven's Last Hunt? That was such a game changer for me.
So the first issue of Infidel is amazing. Been looking forward to this one for awhile and it looks like it's going to deliver the horror.
Since Green Lantern is out this week, I decided I'm going to start ordering the Earth-One books. Snagged that and WW today.
Think I'm gonna get back into suffer comics soon after about a year or so. Any must reads that I've missed?
I think the trade for Gail Simone's Crosswind is out by now and that was fucking amazing. Black Monday Murders Vol 2 should be out soon. I think Hack/Slash Resurrection has another issue left before it goes to trade, I don't know if it's going to stick around, I hope it does because it's INCREDIBLE. If you want some issue #1's to get into Gideon Falls, Infidel, Days of Hate (on issue 2), and Robert Kirkman's Oblivion Song. I also read Grant Morrison's Nameless recently, not as new as the others but it's more or less a horror masterpiece. As far as superheroes read anything from Tom King's Batman or catch up on the Death of Mighty Thor.
Planned to get through all of Snyder's, King's Batman runs for sure. Didn't know H/S was back, still gotta finish the OG! Plan to finally find L&K too! What's Black Monday Murder about, I'm intrigued by the title.
