The ending to PunisherMAX: The Platoon was incredible. I even teared up a bit which is rare for a Punisher comic (in fact I have no other examples). Garth says there's no end in sight for him and the Punisher, he's going to do another Vietnam story and talking about a modern day story that he's being quiet about.
Finished up Batman & Robin today. Really enjoying Morrison’s run overall. Still have four more trades to get through though so I’m hoping to finish it up this weekend.
I’m reading the Firestar mini that I picked up randomly from the library haha. Everything I wanted was already checked out.
Just finished Kraven's Last Hunt. Wow. I got the "Epic Collection," which means that it had a ton of stuff before I even got to the story and now im making my way through the bonus features, but I loved it. It gives you an inside look into Kraven's madness.
So I realized I went slightly out of order with Morrison’s run because I read all of the Batman and Robin trades before reading The Return of Bruce Wayne today, but oh well. Thought that Return was okay. Didn’t grab me as much as the rest has. Now just Batman Inc trades are left!
Not bad actually. Some decent Emma Frost/Hellion action, and I love the X-men/New Mutant stuff from that era.
Nice. Emma Frost is one of my favorite mutants, and yeah, the original New Mutants was so great. Especially the Sienkiewicz issues. I'll have to read that eventually. Spidey got a new costume in space, based on a fan submission. Fans complained, so they made it alive and evil. Fans liked it by then, so Black Cat made a fabric version. Todd McFarlane wanted to draw the classic costume, so Venom's debut scared MJ, making Peter abandon the black. For more, see:
I think for some people it's probably hard to look at the debut of Jane Foster Thor without the context of the wave she was part of, and it's also probably hard to look at this "Death of Might Thor" arc without its publishing context. But, if Jason Aaron commits and sticks the ending, this saga will go down as one of Marvel's all time greatest stories. (Even if she'll inevitably show up again, given her popularity.)
Mighty Thor ended up being far greater than anyone expected. I think that she’s going to survive in some way. Or just removed from the board for a little bit. It’s worth noting that upon Odinson becoming Thor again, he STILL won’t have Mjolnir, unless it just gets dipped in gold for some odd reason. Side-note: I’m really glad that they are sticking with Odinson not having his left arm. I love it when a change sticks. Hopefully they actually stay committed to the Future King Thor look that Aaron established, and not just magically re-grow his arm because infinity stones.
In an ideal world, Jason Aaron would commit to killing her, but also hint in a flash forward that Jane exists in the King Thor era. And then we'd let the Death of Mighty Thor sit for a little while before another writer down the line finds away to bring her back. I'm one of those people who doesn't think a well-written comic book death loses impact when later reversed, but I do think it needs some initial space, like at least a year or two. Though if Jason Aaron does something 100% not what I'm suggesting, I'm sure that'll be awesome, too, lol. As for Odinson's current state, I think the gold looks pretty sick. Also glad he still has his beard. My one complaint is that, while the solid gold arm looks pretty cool, I really liked the Destroyer arm. I'm sure they'll do something cool with Midas to get to what's coming, and I'm all for avoiding modern over-designing... But, I'll still miss that arm.
Yeah I think the Destroyer arm looked better, and he still had that in the future so maybe one day it’ll make a return. I also would’ve been totally okay with him being Thor while still wielding Jarnborn just cause it’s awesome, but I understand it’s incredibly hard to show him fighting people with it non-lethally compared to the hammer haha.
Longbox - a comic collection app - is now free on the App Store. Anyone tried? I’ll give it a go and see if it’s good
New Thor #1 by Jason Aaron and Mike Del Mundo coming out this summer! Fantastic creative team. I read God of Thunder with Ribic in trades, so with some other stuff I want to read monthly, I'm gonna use the end of the Jane Foster saga to shift back into trades. But, I'm no less excited. Aaron's Thor work in every form has completely ruled. Wonder what's next for Russell Dauterman.
I just wish Marvel would adopt the DC mentality with trade. I won't buy hardcovers of singles book and they always offer them up first. I'm reading stories a year after they happen. I wish hardcovers were just 12 issues.
Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leinil Francis Yu is a great creative team for a Captain America series. I haven't seen Yu on a monthly book in a while, so I don't know how that'll work out, but that small reservation aside, I'm pumped for what both creatives will bring to Cap. If nothing else, Coates will handle Cap and America a heck of a lot better than Spencer did, lol.
Yeah that sounds like it's going to be great. Any word on how his Black Panther run is? I might want to check it out before.
