Red undies and a big ol' smirk. Too bad his sleeves still have that weird, tiny New 52 holdout, lol.

Looking forward to the 10-page Bendis story with Jim Lee art in Action Comics #1000, even though I don't actually love Jim Lee, just 'cause Bendis working with Supes and Lee is gonna be an interesting experience. Also looking forward to the million other contributors doing their thing.

Started Batman and Son last night. I'm about 1/3 through it. Hoping to finish it up today, but I'm really liking it so far.

Trades coming out over the next month don't do a lot for me. This is great news with all of the school work I have down the pipe. lol. I think Over the next three weeks, Kill or Be Killed vol 3 is the only thing I'm buying.

Just through on my Godzilla (2014) Bluray, and when the disc is first starting up, there's a banner for the Godzilla: Awakening comic.

Why doesn't every Marvel and DC Bluray, before anything else, open with something similar? And then include some information in the bonus features for how to find comics? Marvel could include an ad for MU.

I know I'm not saying anything particularly novel, but this disc just reminded me how ridiculous it is that there can't be better marketing of comics connected to Big 2 film adaptations.

I did end up finishing Batman and Son last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of Morrison's run soon.

My friend bought me HUSH this week. The only (western) comic I’ve ever read is Watchmen. Excited to read this I hear it’s great.

He's an awful artist who does stuff that reminds me of the 90s in the worst possible way, so no great loss there. Still, dang, man. Come on. Hope Marvel doesn't put him on anything else after Cable.

Yep. Looking forward to see who tackles ASM next.

He did a youtube video, and it's full of WONDERFUL quotes. According to him, he pitched a book that had Captain American working with Donald Trump, and it was turned down. As it is, that's not far off from Secret Empire.

"The bias against straight white men in the industry is clear. I don't have to prove this."

"I don't know that SJW's would even get so far as to gas chamber people, but their goals are essentially the same."

"We are castrating a book like Cable because some SJW can't handle a boob on the cover?"

    Alright, I finished HUSH.

Not being familiar with the comic book universe of Batman, I really appreciated the ensemble approach to the plot. The way it weaves through all Batman's sidekicks' and adversaries' backgrounds made the story accessible. The comic art was gorgeous and moody. Overall I enjoyed it!

I thought the relationship between Batman and Catwoman was handled surprisingly well. I had this assumption going in that comics often mishandle representing females in romantic relationships. She's very much in love and in danger because of it but not at the complete expense of her agency. This is a really delicate thing to handle and I think that because she was represented as being aware of the risks involved it worked.

The starting point being that she felt "violated" by Ivy's manipulation of desires she actually had was powerful. The fact that these desires weren't expressed naturally but forced out of her by power is enlightening to our current conversations on consent.

I liked the build-up and aesthetic surrounding Hush as a villain but could not buy into his motivation. His identity was obvious to me but I did not feel that this ruined the build up to the reveal. I think the heavy foreshadowing actually added to his character. I liked his philosophical musings on friendship - they matched well with the Noir tone. The flashbacks to his and Bruce's childhood were great to frame the camaraderie and competitive nature of their relationship. I thought the jealousy was apparent, but not having any scenes elaborating on why Tommy became a sociopath hurt the reveal of the motivation. He's just disembodied evil. I did read the wiki afterwards and saw this was explored in Hush's returns to the comic. I get that they likely wanted to keep some mystery surrounding Hush as it was only his debut but I think the ending would've been more impactful. I own up that this a result my preference for contained over serialized narratives though.

I’m working my way through Metal. While the “how” of it all is...messy and convoluted, I have been enjoying the general premise and execution. The Dark Knights that ive read (Red Death, The Drowning, the Merciless) were good.

Finally reading Tom King's The Vision and I don't think any amount of hype could have prepared me for how good it is.

EDIT: It's the most jarring thing ever (in a good way) when it transitions from the main story to normal superhero adventuring. It's getting me every time.

Skimming through some solicitations, and apparently the trade for Batman and the Signal will contain both the 3-issue miniseries and the back-ups from All-Star Batman. Cool.

Also, apparently Trinity ends in April. What a dang waste. How did a monthly book featuring DC's 3 most iconic characters never get a steady creative team, especially when it could've been a great counterpoint to the twice-monthly Justice League (and those characters' own solo books, which are all also twice-monthly).

Also, apparently Jim Zub and Sean Izaakse (Uncanny Avengers) are replacing Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos on Champions, starting in April.

Thank goodness. Everything else Waid has written at Marvel in recent years has been great, including his under appreciated Avengers stuff with Mike Del Mundo, but his attempts at writing these kids have been... rough. And, Humberto Ramos is awful. Hopefully this creative team shift (plus gaining Ironheart and the Nadia Pym Wasp) gives this book a much needed breath of new life.

I’ve been investing a lot of time catching up on recent DC stuff. So, I’m currently working my way through Aquaman. Ive got my eyes set on Green Lanterns next.

Also, there was a Hawkman sale on Comixology today that got me to spend some cash on the Johns Hawkman stuff. I remember enjoying the Johns / Goyer JSA Book, So I’m going to re read that, along with Johns’ Hawkman.
