I'll go with a semi-recent recommendation in X-Men Season One by Dennis Hopeless. It's a retelling/update of the original X-Men before Giant Sized X-Men #1. The early work by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby is influential, but hard to read and feels outdated. Hopeless' number one quality is being able to write teenage characters. Also, Jason Aaron's run on Thor is something I would love to be able to reread for the first time.
Out of everything I've been reading on Marvel Unlimited since I signed up a few months back, Jason Aaron's Thor stuff has been the biggest surprise and delight. I never read Thor solo books before, but have been absolutely loving God of Thunder.
@DeRRek Garth Ennis' Punisher MAX run is the super obvious place to go with the Punisher. That entire run is just an incredibly good time, and then you get a pretty good Jason Aaron run after. Ennis also has Welcome Home Frank which is great and where you'll find a lot of inspiration for the Tom Jane movie. Not sure how quickly Marvel Unlimited gets newer stuff, her run finished a few months ago, but Becky Cloonan just had an absolutely fantastic run that was the best I've read since Ennis, she gets the character in the same way Ennis did. You also have Steve Dillon for a bit before he passed and they worked together perfectly.
Not comics, but I’ve bought plenty of books there. Had one book come with a partially missing cover and customer service had it replaced right away. They also refunded me for a book that USPS lost, which later arrived damaged. Pretty solid experience with them.
Damage was ok, looked really good. It's Hulk-esque and I don't tend to like the big characters like that. I just don't have any excitement for these Metal spin off titles and I don't know why. I'm going to give them all a fair shot though. (also don't know what the hell any of them have to do with Metal)
Me too and I don’t really have a history with fighting games. Have you read the comics? It’s such a great world
I'm reading Ground Zero now and it feels kinda pointless. Maybe I just haven't hit the pint of it yet. lol. I loved most all of the first five years tho.
Nah I agree Ground Zero was fairly weak. Tom Taylor’s been back for Injustice 2 and it’s been as good as it ever was.
I haven’t read the injustice comics yet. But I will. I need to see these winter costumes. Love collecting them all. Haha.
Has anyone in here read The Boys? Just saw this news about the show and was curious if the comics are worth checking out. The Boys Casts a Team of Lowdown, Dirty Superheroes
Wow. Excited to see how he ends his run, especially with Marcos Martin on the final issue. Also excited for whoever is next on ASM. Also curious how he handles Iron Man post-Bendis, especially with some of the Iron Man vibes he's given Peter over the years, both subtly and not-so-subtly. There was a rumor last year that Nick Spencer could end up on ASM, which could be great or awful. His work on Superior Foes and the Spider-Island: Cloak & Dagger miniseries showed that he has a great handle on that world... But, after some of that awful Cap politicking, I'd rather not see that happen, lol. I wouldn't mind Zdarsky shifting from Spectacular to Amazing. Or a little nostalgic run for Gerry Conway. Kelly Thompson would probably nail the character. Or maybe Waid?
Caught up (I believe) on Mister Miracle. Whoa, that book is wild and I adore it. Kudos to DC for publishing something so out there. Also, Mech Cadet Yu is awesome and fun.
Marvel just announced that the signed Kelly Thompson to an exclusive deal. From the press release: "...she will continue to bring her talents to both fan-favorite characters and well-known Marvel heroes going forward." Maybe she will be on Spider-Man then, @Tim.
Although I want him on X-books, I think Ewing would do well with ASM. Same goes for Kelly for more X-books and ASM.
If I'm being realistic, I think there's a better chance of her getting more X-Men-related work than there is of her getting ASM. But if she did actually end up on the series, it'd make me stupidly happy.
