I can't imagine the issues having content not in the final collection, but I guess I could be wrong.

Waiting for collected editions for limited series is a good strategy for people who need to budget. That's what I've done with two out of three interesting DC projects this past year (Batman 66 Meets Wonder Woman 77; Mister Miracle). I'm just so excited for Doomsday Clock that I'd rather read it monthly. Plus, I recently dropped Superman and want to still have something from DC every month.

Reading Monstress...Knew nothing going in just saw it super cheap on Amazon and thought it looked like something I'd like. Think I'm going to love it.

I wasn't a huge fan of Murder Machine, but I LOVED Dawnbreaker. Really looking forward to The Drowned and the next Dark Nights issue.

    I took a sabbatical haha.

Certain threads (and the Internet in general) were making me become a misanthrope. I don’t know how you handle it, man.

Hey @Vivatoto @SpyKi @dadbolt @Dodge725 @scottlechowicz @xapplexpiex (and maybe @Henry if you can actually finish one), wanna do this?

Anyone else who hasn't done one of these before is encourage to participate, too!

@Deanna, I am totally down to link to your Planet Hulk podcast for this. The easiest way would probably be to put the link in the blurb for that comic, which might be easiest if you write that one (so you can just organically throw in something like "check out more discussion of this comic on this episode of my weekly podcast, Welcome to Geekdom!"). We could always actively plan for some synergy with new WTG episodes and Further Reading recs, too, like maybe you could have an episode about a Justice League comic in the weeks before that movie to be linked to as well (assuming you have a guest available who wants to jump on that). Plus, reading the same comic for both a blurb and a podcast could help you use your time more efficiently! What are your thoughts on that?

If needed I'll do Thor: God of Thunder. That and New 52 Batman are what got me into reading comics and it's still one of the best things I've read.

I'd be down for doing Unworthy. I really loved that book.

For sure! I meant to reply to you when you originally posted about it. I've only read Aaron's first run, planning on continuing it. I'm down to read whatever though, preferably anything that's really fantastical and less about Earth.

I'm down for this! I can get you a write up soon since it's still relatively fresh in my mind. I do have a plan to cover Punisher S1 when it's out, but I'm not sure if you planned to do one of these for that. 100% down to plan a JL podcast, though! I'll see who'd be up for it.

Oh yeah, I'll be real helpful for the Punisher, ha. I already know what I want to say, there's a quote in the first MAX's introduction (I think) that puts the Punisher in the correct perspective.

sure. i haven't read any of those so if you want to pick one for me I'll read it and put something together. I don't want to pick something that someone else might be passionate about and wants to write about it.

I like the idea of people writing about comics they have a strong personal attachment to, so yeah, go ahead and do God of Thunder. Thanks!

And you'll actually finish this blurb? ;-)

Wanna look into "Thor: Disassembled" (which is about the Ragnarok and ended Thor comics for a few years) and see if that appeals to you? I could see you digging that story, based on what I know about the premise. If it doesn't appeal to you, we can pick something else!

Cool, thanks! And, just in case I wasn't clear, I was specifically referring to you doing an episode on a Justice League comic book before the movie comes out so that you can do a Justice League blurb that links to your podcast, too. The wording of your post made me wonder if I didn't explain myself well enough, lol.

If the above assignments work out, then the comics I was most passionate about including are now covered, which means you could do basically anything Thor related, lol. I'll think of a good option by the end of the day to run by you, but you can also suggest something yourself. Are there any particular characters/concepts/styles that you'd gravitate towards?

  13. Haha, totally makes sense. And yeah, I hear you. Just hadn't seen you around and was hoping you were ok, haha.

And yeah, I've been feeling that way about the internet a lot lately. Thankfully this website, by and large (and yeah, there's some exceptions, especially the thread I check the most often), is the one place I do enjoy being online and I like the community. But, Facebook/Twitter/Reddit/YouTube, I have a hard time with almost every single day. It's been a rough year. Dunno if I'm ever going to really get over this stretch of time ... the nation may not either. :-|

@Tim Yeah, I should have said JL comic book podcast haha. I'll start hitting people up for that. Do you have any specific ones you'd recommend I shoot for? I honestly haven't read too many JL stories.

Also, if anyone on this thread wants to do the JL episode, let me know!

That sounds perfect for me. I see on Amazon its called Avengers Disassembled:Thor and it's issues of Thor 80-85, I assume that's what you are talking about?

As for the Punisher suggestion... I've been a little resistant on getting into the television Further Reading thing because it's harder to figure out when to do them.

Do we do multiple shows in one post? Do we hit up the same show for different seasons? For televised shows, do we aim for season premieres or finales, or maybe even midseason? If Punisher is a surprise release, how do we handle that? What thread do those recs get posted in? Is that asking too much as far as front page posts are concerned?

It's worth considering expanding into television eventually, but until we have a solid battle plan, I'd say we stick to movies. Especially since there are like NINE comic book films scheduled for next year! lol.

I think what you pick can be pretty easily defined by who wants to do a podcast with you.

If you want suggestions, though... I've read very little Justice League as well, lol. I know that the Grant Morrison run is supposed to be great, so volume one of that could be a good option. The first volume of New 52 Justice League by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee seems like it's a strong influence on the upcoming film, so that could work, too.

    Yep, that's the one!

When do you want it done by? I think Thor comes out earlier in the UK so I might write mine after I see the film.

Ideally by Monday, October 30th, so that the post can go up for the US release on November 3rd. So, if you want to take advantage of the earlier UK release date and write your blurb after seeing the film, that'll be fine with me.

Just as a preemptive heads up, Justice League comes out on November 17th, only two weeks after Thor: Ragnarok, so we'll definitely have to get those JL assignments taken care of before Thor comes out. I'll probably start the process on that one in a week or two.

What were you thinking for Justice League? A mix of solo and crew books or just JL as a whole? I'm not familiar enough with individual runs outside of Morrison's JLA, New 52, and the Rebirth one (that I would recommend to no one).

Though it is basically the same thing, I'm not sure the Darkseid War would be a good place to start for new readers. I'd say the beginning of New 52 is basically perfect.

I'm not sure yet. A couple solo books could be cool for people who want to delve deeper into specific characters, but since I'm not a big DC reader, I'm not sure off hand what the best strategy is. Maybe at least an Aquaman story, since he'll probably proportionately get the most hype in relation to how much people actually know the character. Is the New 52 Aquaman/Justice League accessible to new readers?

The only Justice League stories I've really gotten into are New Frontier, A League of One, and the 80s JL International series. If Kingdom Come counts, then that, too. Don't know how much those really work as recommendations based on this film, though. Maybe A League of One, since it's Wonder Woman-centric, and she's a lot of people's favorite DCEU character? And maybe New Frontier, since it's just a masterpiece?

One of the best arcs in Johns Justice League is called Throne of Atlantis and it’s obviously heavy on Aquaman. Looking back it might have been my favorite.

Maybe worth thinking about the first trade for Earth 2 also. It’s not strictly Justice League, and the trinity die in the first issue, but it’s a look at what total failure to Apokalypse would look like. I guess there’s a bit of origin for The Flash and Green Lantern too but they’re obviously different origins. Steppenwolf is one of the main series villains and it’s the most I’ve seen of him, but I don’t think that starts in the first trade.

And yeah, New 52 Aquaman is super accessible.

Planet Hulk is now taken. We actually went from no slots filled for Thor to everything filled in a pretty short time, lol. Thanks, though.

And, yes, I'm very down for your help in getting the JL one together! I value your knowledge of DC stuff. You have some good suggestions for what we should include?
