I enjoyed Marvel Legacy, but it's cool what they're doing with the "Famiy."

Picked up Royal City Vol. 1 and it's so good! Lemire is writing some awesome stuff there.

I seriously loved everything about the Legacy one-shot, but looking at my recent post history, that should surprise no one.

I thought everything about the pacing and tone was spot-on. The vignettes sprinkled in with various artists doing a page each worked wonderfully, which is good 'cause something like that can easily fail, especially when they're a detour from the main story as illustrated by Esad Ribic. The "reveals" landed well in spite of anyone who pays attention to the Internet knowing all the big ones beforehand.

Anyone who dug the Hickman Avengers era as much as I dig is gonna dig this one-shot and be excited for whatever Jason Aaron is writing next year to continue this story. (Probably taking over Avengers in April or May after the weekly Avengers story running January through March, right?) Looks like he already has a big, exciting epic ready to roll out.

fell away from a lot of marvel except for Spider-Man and Star Wars. Even dropped Miles after a while. I loved the ultimate line and even the start of him in main continuity, but idk, something just felt off as it went on and I wasn't enjoying it as much. loved some recent marvel things like Vision, but idk if i'll be jumping back into marvel with legacy just yet. will wait and see. having a hard enough time keeping up with all my DC, indies, and back log haha.

Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider has been a really fun and weird series that I now look forward to reading every month.

The art may have taken a significant hit when Mark Bagley was replaced by Will Sliney, but the story continues to feel like an off-kilter Spidey tale. Like, in issue #7, Ben met Death. As in, the same personification of Death that Thanos is so fond of, which Ben brings up. And, in the arc that just started in #8, Ben is dealing with the Slingers, as in those characters who took on the mantles Peter Parker briefly donned in that weird late 90s storyline "Identity Crisis."

Reading a few of the [Blank] Kills the [Blank] Universe stories and they're totally up my alley, ha.

Read Punisher: Welcome Back, Frank this weekend. I know the character isn’t for everyone but I really enjoyed this. Mainly got around to reading it since it was the pick for Marvel’s Unlimited Reading Club that they do for their podcast.

Last week didn’t go as planned so this is the only comic book reading I’ve done in a bit. Still planning to get to some stuff on my shelf soon.

Hi! I'm trying to get back into comics and was hoping for some help in how to best catch myself up after about a seven year hiatus. I'm mostly a Marvel fan (though I've made note of some of the DC recommendations in the opening post) but was also reading series from Image, Vertigo, Dynamite, etc when I let the hobby lapse.

I just signed up for Marvel Unlimited since that's where most of the books I was reading were under, but I'm not sure where best to jump back on board. My reading list was pretty hefty when I (abruptly) stopped following them - I was reading most of the X-Men books (Uncanny, X-Force, X-Factor, etc), Amazing Spider-Man, a couple of the Avengers books, Invincible Iron Man, Thunderbolts, and probably a handful of others...in terms of timeline I think I made it to the end of the Siege event.

So far I've earmarked Matt Fraction's Hawkeye series, the Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man books (read all of the Peter Parker ones when they came out), the Vision series from however long ago, Ms. Marvel from a couple years back and that's about it. Any guidance or advice of where I can best jump in for some of the tentpole on-goings or any other mini-series or one-offs worth taking a look at would be super appreciated.

I was an semi-frequenter of the old comic thread on AP.net and remember it being just the best, and the Chorus iteration looks just as great.

Hey! So I think you've definitely made some good decisions on where to start. A lot of those series are grade A stuff. I'd add Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Spencer's Ant-Man run to the list. Those are probably my two favorite books in recent years. I don't read the big books, so I can speak for those. @Tim and @xapplexpiex are the go to guys for that.

@Tim can help you out with current Marvel but on that front I just want to say that The Vision is a must.

If you're into horror, there are a lot of fantastic creator-owned comics. check out Locke and Key, Wytches, and Severed.if you want something more science fictiony go with Saga, Paper Girls, God Country, and Seven to Eternity.

also, read Batman. The current and last creative teams have put out some really great Bat books.

All New Wolverine is good! Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is a fun read if you’re looking for something a little different. Those are my main two additions for now. I’m very inconsistent with my comics reading lately but those two I’ve been keeping up with on Unlimited.

Nobody memorable. Joined in the mid 2000s and only had a couple hundred posts to my name.
    I'll add those, thanks!
I've got Locke & Key (curious about how Joe Hill does comics, I've had mixed feelings about the books of his I've read) and Saga on my list already. I'll add the others.

I've got The Court of the Owls set aside to check out - think that's where the previous team kicked off?
I've got this one on my list! Very excited to check it out, it sounds awesome. It was going to be the first "new" book I checked out but it was late at night was worried it would be too spooky, so I read Tokyo Ghost instead.
    I'll add these, thanks!

    Well welcome!

Yes, Court of Owls is the start of Snyder/Capullo run.

I'm actually there opposite with Joe Hill, never read any of his books, but on several, but loved Locke & Key(although I haven't finished).

Nailbiter is fantastic, definitely read it soon! Joshua Williamson is a great with and what I've read of his current Flash run is great as well.

yeah Court of Owls is the place to start for newer Batman. Locke and Key is what got me back into comics and I hadn't read any of Joe's novels at that point.

Welcome to the thread! I'll have more time tonight or tomorrow to add some more recommendations, but you've already picked 4 of the best Marvel runs to come out so far this decade, so you're certainly off to a great start.

So, 7 years? So you're specifically looking for anything from like 2011 through today, right?

    Thank you! Much appreciated.

I'm basically looking for anything worth reading that I missed in that time frame, OR a good starting place to jump back in on some of the flagship titles. Thinking back, I think a part of why I stopped reading (aside from just having less time and needing to save money) was because it felt like so many of the on-going series I was reading were getting bogged down in Event Series or stopping and starting/being rebranded and getting all mixed up. So if there's a natural starting place for some on-going books that don't necessarily pick up right from where I left off, that's fine.

So I love Black Hammer but I'm also pretty sure it's the slowest moving comic I've ever read. It works but I feel like it's going to be best read as a full series when it's all out.

Also Black Magick is good. I kept confusing those two because of their names and figured I should finally just start reading them.

You missed out on an entire DC event called New 52, you should check them all out.

I forgot Black Magick came back. That first trade was gorgeous!

Seriously considering being a gigantic nerd and making myself a reading schedule. I kind of have one for books right now since I have a few that I need to review, but I'm still slacking on reading what's on my shelf.

My friend returned my comics since she felt bad for keeping some that I hadn't read yet, which means I can read Arkham Asylum now. I think I might end up putting that on the list to discuss on the podcast.
