In other comics and @Tim related news. I finished editing our episode on the deadly foes of spider-man and the superior foes of spider-man with some sony movies talk. AKA a lot of spider-man talk that didn't actually have much to do with spider-man. Hope you'll all listen on Tuesday!
Reading the second Rucka WW collection. It is so weird that he decided to make Wonder Woman blind for a year long arc. I'm loving it, but its such an odd decision.
I ordered a Captain Marvel book thinking it was the next book in the series, but it ended up being the last bit before Secret Wars and Carol Corps combined. Can't understand Marvel's releases much at all. Guess I'll just exchange it at B&N.
I still need to read both books. Looking forward to them for sure, though. And on a side note, I recently finished the Inhumans series from 98 and Planet Hulk. I’ll probably read World War Hulk soon since it starts right where I left off. But I’m podcasting on Planet Hulk on Wednesday.
Trying out a new feature over at Talking Comics: Marvel Unlimited Archives: Inhumans ('98) - Talking Comics If anyone has suggestions on comics to cover for it, let me know!
Reading Marvel Knights Spider-Man, which I was reluctant to read 'cause I don't love Millar's Marvel work as much as a lot of people do. Plus, Frank Cho drew part of it, and thinking of that douche makes me vomit in my mouth. I've mostly been really enjoying it, though. Really solid adventure with some good heart. Not an all-time great or anything, but thrilling in all the right ways. Funny how much Peter's secret identity plays into this, since Millar is the man behind Civil War; clearly Millar finds that aspect of Peter's life rather fascinating.
I'm reading Amy Chu's Red Sonja and it has way too much of that not-quite-nudity that I hate in comics. There are so many Dynamite books that have interesting characters and they constantly pull that shit.
This new Superman arc seems like it should be a lot of fun. Also Detective Comics: A Lonely Place of Living coming! Between that and the Oz reveal Sept is getting crazy.
Batwoman is incredible this week. Like a good Future's End. Looks like it was actually a prologue to a Det Tec arc that is coming after A Lonely Place... Really exciting.
Still loving The War of Jokes and Riddles. This issues' premise was pretty bizarre but with King's dialogue it just works. I can't decide if I like Metal yet or not. The opening pages were a lot of fun and there were some great jokes but it all still feels way too convoluted. I'm still interested enough and have enough faith in the creative team to keep reading though Southern Bastards is back after a long break and just as good as it ever was.
I loved Metal. I can see where it seems convoluted mostly because a lot of it has its roots in Grant Morrison's run, but because that's my favorite Batman run ever, it's everything I could want. Going forward I think it will be better because it will just be all the Dark Batmans attacking, but that takes a lot of setup and explaining in continuity so it's all getting thrown in at the top. Really excited by all the returning characters being teased/showing up too.
Here's my review! Took a little longer because I started watching an episode of True Detective haha. Dark Nights: Metal #1 Review | Comic Book Blog | Talking Comics
They keep topping themselves with every issue of the War of Jokes and Riddles. Loved this issue. Which side do you think he'll take?
Finished reading King's Omega Men, which I started when I first got the trade last fall but then forgot to finish (as I often do). I liked it a lot, though I think it's the kind of story that'll benefit a lot from a second read someday. Besides King's writing, I've gotta say the best part of the series was the coloring by Romulo Fajardo Jr. There was weirdly one issue that had the main artist but a fill-in colorist, and the art was still decent in that issue but wasn't as strong as elsewhere. Apparently this colorist is also the one who did Wonder Woman: Year One and Angela: Asgard's Assassin; he also colored Liefeld's Deadpool: Bad Blood OGN and is why Liefeld's art was better than usual there (but still totally Liefeld-y). I'd like to see what he could do with Romita Jr pages sometime.
That's my guess too but I also wonder if maybe he will underestimate the Joker at this point. He's already seen the havoc Riddler can wreak when he's in charge from Zero Year. At the same time he's of course seen Joker's slaught during the war, but I'd say Riddler has matched him body for body there, so you can't really use that as the criteria. The Riddler is definitely the best chance he has when it comes to maybe him seeing some reason. This could also be something that "breaks the Joker's heart" as I love that common theme, ha
