To be fair, Ben Reilly wasn't originally that way in the 90s! lol. Ironically, he was brought in to restore the levity they felt Peter had lost some of at the time. ('Cause, y'know, nothing makes a title more lighthearted than internal conflict on whether or not you're a clone...) Forgot this was out this week already! Nice.
Oh yeah, I got some cool new comics recently (between an IST order and a HPB trip): -Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection: Kraven's Last Hunt (Already owned the main story, but this collection also includes Peter & MJ's wedding and Spider-Man vs Wolverine, plus some other relevant issues, so definitely worth it. I now own ASM #224-294 w/out interruption, which is cool.) -Spider-Man by Todd Dezago & Mike Wieringo (This is a funny collection because it's 19 continuous issues of Sensational Spider-Man from the 90s, but the first 5 are from the Ben Reilly era, including only part of the 4-issue crossover that brought Peter back and killed Ben, and then proceeds to jump into Peter's return to the mantle, lol. Still a cool collection of my childhood's Spidey, though.) -Superman Action Comics Rebirth Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 (I remember flipping through Action Comics when it relaunched and not thinking it looked that good, but I'm glad I pulled the trigger on the OHC, 'cause all the big action looks pretty cool on these slightly larger pages in one bigger hardcover volume. I'll probably stick to Superman on my pull list and Action Comics in OHC for the foreseeable future.) -Secret Wars (the original 80s event) (Finally pulled the trigger on this one! I was reluctant 'cause I couldn't get into Crisis on Infinite Earths at all when I tried it, but this one has a certain level of blatant silliness and bombast that makes it a lot more fun.) -X-Force: The Final Chapter (essentially the second volume of X-Statix) (6 trades down, including the Dead Girl miniseries, 1 to go to own the complete X-Statix! Once I get that last volume, I'll be able to give the whole thing a proper read-through, which will be especially welcome once Silver Surfer wraps up in a couple months. Though, I might also have to get that more recent Doop miniseries from the Marvel Now era.)
DC Comics Gets Horrifying with Special Halloween Horror Anthology - Bloody Disgusting @Vivatoto this sounds right up your alley
That awkward moment when Norman enjoys Harry's girlfriend on stage too much... Doesn't help that this is canonically almost exactly the period of time they added the worst Spidey story ever: Norman impregnating Gwen. *shutter*
I just started reading the Miles Morales Spider-Man comics. I started with Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #1. Silly me, I should've known it wouldn't be the beginning of the story because nothing makes sense like that in the comic world lol. What do I need to read pre this series to get caught up?
List of Ultimate Spider-Man story arcs - Wikipedia I found that very helpful. My plan was to start at Volume 2, read through death of spider man, and then return to miles.
Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man (2011), which lasted 28 issues. There was also a 5-issue miniseries during this time called Spider-Men. You can go straight from that to Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #1, but if you want the complete story, there is a development in the Cataclysm event that took place between runs. I didn't read Cataclysm originally and was fine, but it's written by Bendis, like everything else, so you can decide if you wanna include it. (You can also be super completionist and read the over 100 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man starring Peter first, but while that's all worth reading, everything you need to know is explained in the Miles material.)
You guys are great - thank you! And from what I understand, Miles is now a part of the mainstream 616 Marvel universe? Where Peter is still alive?
Yep. Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man lasted 12 issues, and then the Ultimate universe was destroyed by Hickman's epic Secret Wars event. Miles and his supporting cast ended up in the 616 universe, with a dead character from his world revived, essentially because Miles gave the Molecule Man an old cheeseburger from his pocket, lol.
I'm just saying, given the new SM movie and how I felt about certain things ... I laughed a lot at this:
Just realized my MU renewed last month and I really won't be spending much on comics at all for the foreseeable future other than that. I don't think my bank account likes me for last month's expenses right now haha.
Also, just a heads up that I updated the Google Doc of comics-related episodes: WTG Comic Book Episodes Decided to add in the movies, too, since I've seen quite a few people from this thread discussing those as well.
No way! I read this series over the summer and loved it. Wonder how they'll capture the aesthetics of the comic! Is it animated or live action?
