I think I've been to Jay and Silent Bob's like once despite living not too far from it my entire life. The only place I know close to you is Wildpig in Kenilworth. Didn't get comics, but used to play Magic there regularly and the owner that was there for that is really nice.
They under-order a LOT. They also weren't carrying a bunch of Dynamite books when I was going there. It was just such a bummer.
Ah gotcha. That's pretty sucky. Shouldn't they know they need to order more if they have a TV show?? Haha.
Reminder to get your Spidey Further Reading blurbs to me as soon as you can! This is the week, y'all! @dadbolt @SpyKi
Just read Superman/Supergirl Maelstrom. I think I liked it? I really only picked it up for the Phil Noto artwork, which is always amazing.
I bought the issues for a dollar each and I think only read the first issue. I think I remember not loving the Superman/Supergirl dynamic? Don't really remember, as that was probably 2 years ago. But, yeah, Phil Noto art is always a delight. His upcoming Inhumans prequel miniseries written by Christopher Priest should be cool.
It was funny to see ASM #91 (December 1970) feature a conservative politician who repeatedly talked about "law and order" in the aftermath of Captain Stacy's death. He and JJJ both complained about "liberals" (who were, naturally, conflated with "left-wing anarchists" and a "commie"). Meanwhile, the politician was called a "fascist" and compared to Hitler. Whenever I come across old comics like this, I'm always reminded that people who complain about modern Marvel being too "political" or whatever have no idea what Stan Lee's comics were like.
The last New 52 Flash trade may have one of my favorite ideas for a comic ever. Its not the most original idea in the world, but I love it. For those who don't know, the city blames the Flash for a lot of its problems. A future version of Barry created a lot of chaos, and now they want the Flash neutralized. To do it, the city hires the Rouges to take him down. Good stuff.
Marvel Legacy: Rodney Barnes To Have Falcon Wrestle With Demons In New Series Some information about the upcoming Falcon series, which was previously revealed to be part of the Marvel Legacy push this fall. Thankfully they got an actual black man to write it; I'm glad Marvel has gotten a little better at having writers match their "diverse" lead characters. I haven't completely decided on how I feel about Sam Wilson as Falcon again. On the one hand, having a POC character succeed as a solo character with his original mantle is cooler than him needing to take on someone else's mantle; on the other hand, having a black character as Captain America is thematically significant. The America (Chavez) series will be continuing into the fall, which stars a queer Latina woman and is written by a queer Latina woman, so that makes letting Falcon thrive on his own terms a lot more palatable.
That thread on Facebook about America really surprised me. I had no idea so many people disliked that book.
Which thread are you referring to? Was there a recent one I missed? I do remember there being someone who really didn't like some of America's banter a while ago, lol, which I didn't get.
Looks like it was deleted. It was about how SyFy may be adapting her into a television show and they felt like Marvel was just forcing diversity on us without any semblance of a good story. It was kind of jarring, coming from a queer person. Like, its cool to have opinions about media, but it felt like more an attack than anything. It was weird. A lot of people seemed to agree with the sentiment that it was a poor book. Its whatever. I'm cool with the book and enjoyed what I read.
Oh yeah, that thread. I totally remember skipping out on that 'cause I wasn't in the mood for nonsense, lol. I'm a big proponent of fair critiques. Like, Marvel's abundance of "diverse" titles written by white men sucks. But, like, America features a protagonist who belongs to a least a few different oppressed demographics, and it's written by an author who fits that entire bill. It literally doesn't get more organic than that.
Caught up on East of West trades. I think the next one is coming out soon and I'm sooooo so looking forward to it. This last book was great.
