Apparently a lot of Marvel fans don't remember the X-Men... "We talked with Marvel very closely about their future roadmap, about what's gonna be happening. Your modern Marvel fan, maybe they don't even remember some of the X-Men characters, but they know some of the Guardians characters or Black Panther. You know what I mean? Captain Marvel may seem like a strange pick, but she's fantastic. She fits the gameplay. She fits the story, and they're gonna be really pushing her as a strong female lead all the way up into the movie. We're trying to take everything into account and choose the best characters." MARVEL VS. CAPCOM: INFINITE Features No X-Men Because Producers Don't Think You Remember Them
Capcom and Marvel REALLY dropped the ball on this game. Everything there was to like about the old games is missing here. The demo was BAD. Definitely won't be buying it at full price.
MvC:I is turning into one of my biggest gaming disappointments in recent memory. So much about it ranges from underwhelming (the roster) to just plain bad (THAT ARTSTYLE).
Boo. It's been even a while, but I need to start using this site more often. I just finished Black Hole and loved it. Now I'm onto the epic task of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol.
Doom Patrol is a monster I want to tackle eventually. Grant's work can confuse the hell out of me a lot of times, so I'm not sure how it will go over.
That X-Men stuff is weird because didn't a lot of people go to see the movies? Like they'd know at least the team for the most part. Also, never got into the X-Men, but since I started an internship at Marvel I've gotten a bunch of X-Men trades and Lemire's Extraordinary X-Men stuff is so much fun. The All-New X-Men stuff by Hopeless and Bagley is a perfect complementing book to that run. Have the Dark Phoenix Saga stuff and some Whedon X-Men that I can't wait to dive into.
The last page of Action Comics made me realize how much I'm loving the current Super-family (yes totally including Luthor)
I really hope the ending to Batman 66 and Wonder Woman 77 actually happens, I'd definitely add that to the pull. Really fun series, the people trade waiting are going to enjoy it.
COMIX. Catching up. Yay. Finally got to read Spectacular Spider-Man #1. Loved it. No surprises there. I'm glad that Chip is able to weave his sense of humor, which is perfect for someone like Spidey, into this series while still not letting it become a straight-up comedy series (though, based on how much I loved Superior Foes, I'd still totally dig this if it were a straight-up comedy). Between Chip and the art team of Kubert and Bellaire, the vibe here is very classic, traditional Spider-Man while also feeling appropriately like a modern comic in the present-day Marvel universe. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes. The latest issue of Mighty Thor did a good job of giving the "War Thor" (w/ Ultimate Mjolnir) a solid origin story spinning out of the series' main ongoing conflict. I'm that, instead of recycling the mystery from when Jane Foster became Thor, Jason Aaron let us follow Volstagg from his point of view, culminating in watching him lift the hammer. Silver Surfer is such a perfect series, y'all. I'm bummed that this only has a couple issues left, but I'm also glad that Slott and Allred have been able to craft this roughly 30-issue storyline so beautifully and perfectly. With how touching this issue was, I'm excited to see how the last two issues wrap everything up. Superman #25 wrapped up that 6-issue arc, which probably should've been at least one issue shorter than it was. Some good stuff with the Kent family in this issue, and the fate of the villain was hilarious, but I'm happy to move on to whatever this series has coming up next. On a whim, I flipped through Edge of Venomverse #1 and decided to pick it up. This issue focused on a young X-23 as a Venomized Wolverine on the run from those who created her, accompanied by characters from NYX. The story opened and ended pretty abruptly, which makes sense given the premise, though the writing was still strong for what it was. I really dug the art, too, which is a big part of why I pulled the trigger on buying it. I think this whole Venomverse thing is just gonna be a lot fun, as it should be.
The Edge of Venomverse opening page with Laura in the elevator made me have to read the issue. Boschi's art is insane!
I picked up Stray Bullets Uber Alles Edition since it was only 30 dollars at my lcs. Read the first five issues and I'm loving it. It's sometimes hard to figure out what's going on in the panels but I'm loving the story.
I feel like every shop in NJ has asshole ownership. Been to about seven different places, and the owners are never pleasant. The woman working the counter at the place I went to today was listening to Warpaint, so we naturally became best friends.
That's mostly been my experience as well. The one place I really liked closed a LONG time ago. What area are you in again?
I'm in New Prov, and usually go to Little Shop of Comics in Scotch Plains. The place I went to today was in Somerset. Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash is the most notoriously horrible in my opinion. Those dudes just don't give a shit, despite what you'd expect.
