Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 Really dig this preview of Spectacular Spider-Man by Chip Zdarsky, Adam Kubert, and Jordie Bellaire. The first issue comes out Wednesday!
That doesn't really go away. I honesty think that run has the single most confusing back story of any comic book ever haha
Just read the silent issue of East of West. It was pretty incredible, and I'm glad it starred my favorite character.
You'll be fine. Its going to be something like a Crisis event with a lot of the stuff having happened pre-New 52. I'd say at least know that the events of Death of Hawkman took place.
Spent some time catching up on comics yesterday. Dark Days was an intriguing read. Changing artists mid-scene was kind of jarring and bugs me more than it probably should. Paper Girls is so much fun. At this point I don't know how BKV could possibly tie everything together; but as long as Cliff Chiang and Matt Wilson keep doing their thing, I'll keep reading. I love these absurd cliffhangers.
I need to read more Hawkman stuff. I always assumed I wouldn't like him because the arrowverse version of him was one of the worst things ever. Reading Death of Hawkman now, probably dive into Geoff Johns run after.
Hawkman can be awesome. I'm generally of a fan. But it's really frustrating to have two completely different origins, each with their own sets of fans and supporters. Personally, I prefer to sci-for origin. Mainly because the Rann-Thannagar stuff.
It's the origin they went with for JLU, so as far as I am concerned it wins out haha. But the reincarnated lovers stuff is kind of cool, too. So I understand the people who are into the more traditional origin. One of the Infinite Crisis tie-ins centered on the Rann-Thannagar conflict, if you are interested.
That actually answers some of my questions because reading the Death of Hawkman I was wondering how Hawkgirl and Vandal fit into all that. I love the Infinite Crisis era so I'll have to check that out
Read the first issue of Mother Panic and was really into it. I'm not sure How many Young Animal books I'll be picking up. I read a bit of Shade, but it was a bit too wonky for me.
Hey. Spider-Man: Homecoming is coming up. Let's get this movie's "Further Reading" recs assigned! We have @dadbolt doing Superior Foes of Spider-Man, I'm obviously gonna do one (though I'm gonna let others pick theirs first), and @Deanna is willing to do one (though she wanted to give others a chance first, since she's done every one so far). So, we need at least a couple more participants, but can also use more if you want! @Henry, @Jason Tate, @xapplexpiex, @SpyKi, or anyone else reading this... Any of you down to contribute this time around? Besides the already claimed Superior Foes, a few other options I had thought of include the first volume of Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis and Bagley, the first volume of the current Dan Slott Amazing Spider-Man, and Spider-Man: Blue, though I'm down with including whatever other options related to the movie you're interested in doing! Only requirement is that it's readily available in print so that those who don't read digitally can easily pick it up.
I'm still down for Superior. Just wanted to say I read the first 8 issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man today. I'm already getting pretty attached to Miles. His reaction after he beat up Omega Red brought me so much joy. I was more than a little bummed about the artist switch a few issues in. That's really my only complaint so far.
Chris Samnee was who I was referring to...just read the first Marquez issue and it was as great as Sara's, for sure
Chris Samnee is himself a fantastic artist (see: his recent run on Black Widow w/ Mark Waid, colors by Matt Wilson). I liked his issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man when I re-read recently, but he's definitely not in the same style as Pichelli and Marquez. A lot more minimalist. I forget who the current artist on Spider-Man is, but he's done a good job of capturing that vibe, too.
