(Triple post, don't care. Chill day, y'all.)

Read some more Amazing Spider-Man after taking a short break. Through #52.

I must say, revisiting "Spider-Man No More" (#50) made me like the second Raimi film even less. By combining this classic story, where Peter has his powers but does want to keep being Spider-Man, with the power loss angle of the classic ASM Annual #1, Raimi and company totally lessened the impact of both stories and ended up with a story that's way less cohesive than people admit. I loved seeing Peter finally start achieving his dream life in the comic before realizing he needs to become Spider-Man again, especially since saving the life of someone who looked like Uncle Ben is what put him back on track. Such a good look at the cost and responsibility of heroism.

Also, I did my reading after watching a few episodes of Master of None, and now I can't stop thinking about what an Aziz Ansari-helmed Spider-Man story would be like. lol.

Really hoping he has some sketches available next week. That one in particular would be perfect. Magik.

Shit, I was afraid of that. I started it this weekend and was really enjoying it. I think I'll finish it out anyway, even though I read online that some fans haven't been very happy with where they took the character and had heard similar things about the artwork change. I'm also debating how far back I wanna keep going with Amazing Spider-Man stories. Did you enjoy Superior Spider-Man? I never read that, and I kinda fell out around "Brand New Day" ... I've read everything from the end of Superior up until the most recent issue, and quite a bit of the old stuff, but I'm debating how much of a completionist I wanna be. Before even thinking of some of the older Scarlet Spider spin-off stuff.

(Side-bar, the internet doesn't have as good of an easy to browse database for all comics as one would hope. It's annoying to try and piece together series and when they end and start and all that. I find myself frustrated with ComicVine pretty frequently. Haha.)

Superior Spider-Man is great imo. It shows a very different side of what a hero can become given they snap. I read most everything prior to the switchback, so I can't say whether or not the resolution was good. I loved the way they dealt with an overly violent Spider-man though.

Also, Marvel Unlimited has a way to split up runs and stuff.

I haven't really ever kept up consistently with Spider-Man in my adult life, lol. Lots of great stuff sprinkled through, but too much inconsistency for my liking. Like, for Brand New Day, since much of that era consists of miscellaneous short arcs, I just collected a bunch of issues with artists I really dig, like Chris Bachalo and Paolo Rivera. This current Parker Industries era is a cool one I do wanna complete, but I have limited funds and have made other Spider books a higher priority.

I do own all of Superior Spider-Man in oversized hardcover, but I for some reason never finished reading it. Gotta go back to that when I finish classic ASM through Gwen's death. What I read was pretty cool, though. Neat take on the character. There was a bit with Otto-as-Pete being gross about MJ I really hated, but besides that, it was a cool take on the mythos.

Spider-Man/Deadpool is fun. If you like both characters, you'll think it's fun.

Superior Spider-Man is fantastic imo. Lots of great stuff there. Dying Wish leads into it if you want the complete story of how Doc Oc took over and that's great too.

Finished the first Rucka collection for Wonder Woman. Thought it was a little strange that the majority of the book was about WW releasing a memoir. lol. I like that he tried to establish a female Lex Luthor. Hopefully book two isn't far off. I can't get enough of Rucka writing her. Gonna pick up the Perez collection in my next order.

The only issue I've bought from Spiderman/Deadpool is the Aukerman written one.

    I loved it.

Which I wonder now why I'm not following that. Suicide Kings is one of my favorites just because of that Spiderman-Deadpool dynamic.

Just beginning to dabble with graphic novels to the point where I'm Googling "best graphic novels of *insert name*" just to have some place to start.

One that appears elusive is Silver Surfer. For some reason I have always been a big fan of SS going back to elementary school but not sure where to start with him. Was going to go with "Rebirth of Thanos" but don't know yet if that's an origin story or in the middle of something else. Any suggestions or good websites that help out with this kind of stuff?

@Tim will be the dude that can help you with SS

if you want to branch outside of superhero stuff there is a ton of great creator owned stuff out right now. Welcome to the thread! I recommend reading lots of Batman.

The easiest way is just having people to ask, like those of us in this thread. You can google stuff, but you'll find a wide range of opinions for popular characters, and sometimes struggle with more obscure characters. But, by asking actual people (in person or online), you can get a more organic recommendation. We've recently been making "further reading" recommendations corresponding with each comic book film for that same reason.

As for specifically Silver Surfer, if you want classic stuff, I recommend the Epic Collection volume "Freedom." It starts with some shorter 80s stories that establish his roots (in the pages of 60s Fantastic Four) pretty effectively, and then take him into the bigger Marvel cosmic universe. I haven't read "Rebirth of Thanos" yet, but I do know that it'd be a pretty natural read between "Freedom" and Infinity Gauntlet, if you wanna fully commit to those classic Marvel cosmic tales.

For more modern stuff, I highly recommend the current series by Dan Slott and Mike Allred. It's very accessible to new readers and is easily my favorite Silver Surfer material, though if you know you wanna start with the classics, you could still do "Freedom" first. Either way works. But, yeah, the Slott/Allred run is wonderful.

Thanks! I will be reading through this thread over the next few weeks which I'm sure will lead me down numerous rabbit holes to check out.

For Batman and Superman I have been looking at the "Celebrating 75 Years" collections that look like they have a lot of great collections giving good history and some of the better attitudes of both characters. Figured I would start there for those two and see where it leads / what I like.

Awesome! Thank you for the details and insight! I've started seeing and better understanding the debates people have with certain writers / artists so I'm curious what my impression and thoughts will be once I start and experience difference decades of characters.

I figure worst case scenario I start with something short (and hopefully cheap) and go from there either in the same direction or do a 180. Might start with the modern SS stuff you recommended since I think I'd be able to connect with that abut better than stuff from the 60's / 70's.
