I thought it was pretty good. It's dark as hell, but the Scarecrow stuff was a interesting "twist" on the character. It's not my favorite, but it's a good Scarecrow book. I'm also a weird Batman fan, like ... I don't really like Grant Morrison's stuff and everyone else seems to love it. Haha.
You'd definitely love it. I read all of the Dark Knight series and really enjoyed it. Snyder's run obviously outshines it, but I probably liked it more than most of Det tec running around that time. I know you'd love it because it's ridiculously dark and and showcases more horror. (imo read the whole run though)
This is one of those criticisms I've come to completely understand. I love what came out of it, but there are aspects of it that boggle my mind. The whole time traveling arc is the most Morrison thing ever. If it weren't for that and the reveal of the big bad, I'd say its a 10/10. The book with Quitely is perfect.
Agreed 100%! Overall I kinda hate Morrison's Batman stuff but there are definitely some single issues of his various runs that I've loved. The best things that Morrison had added to the Bat Mythos are Damien Wayne and Batcow.
I just ordered Year One of East of West, read the first issue and loved it. Anything else you'd recommend from Hickman? I love Black Monday Murders.
I am a huge Hickman fan. He just hits a sweet spot for me, so I am a little biased. The easiest recommendation is probably Manhattan Projects. His earlier work, (Nightly News and Pax Romana), where he does the writing and the "art" is all really intriguing, but it isn't for everyone. He doesn't really do "panels" or anything along those lines. It is more like "graphic design" where you get visual information, mostly via texts and graphs, with some actual art peppered throughout. Check out a preview, if you think you dig that, jump in enthusiastically haha. I also think Red Wing, Red Mass for Mars, and Transhuman, which have a more "traditional" artist, are really awesome. Not sure if you have read it, but his Marvel stuff is also top notch. His time in charge of the Fantastic Four might be in my all time favorite super hero runs.
I'm very new to comic books, my experience has been more video games, movies, and TV shows. To answer your question, the only one I've read (my first) was The Long Halloween
Sweet, thanks, everything I've read makes me think I'd be a huge fan too. Definitely checking out the Manhattan Projects. I really enjoy the more experimental stuff so I could see myself digging his early work too. I haven't read any F4 but I've wanted to.
Yeah that's an excellent way to start. I was in the same position like a year ago (like literally the same, I came into this thread asking about Batman and the Scarecrow because I loved the Arkham games, ha). The need to reads imo are Year One, Hush, Black Mirror, and Under the Red Hood. Also Snyder's who run is incredible and and easy place to start and read all the way through.
If you like Black Monday Murders, I can easily see you liking Nightly News and Pax Romana. They are worth it just to see an interesting way to tell a comic book story. There is very little like it.
The Marvel Unlimited episode of WTG is scheduled to go up at 4am PST tomorrow. Next week should be on Darth Vader Vol. 1.
I've read alot of it starting with the issues pre-New 52 and read the first couple of arcs of N52 but stopped somewhere in the middle I believe. I think it was after the Bane arc?!
Definitely read Batman: Hush then. I understand why you like Scarecrow now hahaha. The Arkham games are some of my favorites!
Yes, obviously Scarecrow has prominent roles in recent movies and video games. I enjoy his psychological use of fear on his victim, I was also a huge fan of Batman The Animated Series when I was young and remember the Scarecrow episodes well
It's pretty random, but one of my favorite Scarecrow moments is in Blackest Night. Two words: Flying Monkeys
the Chip writing Spectacular Spider-Man, are we getting a Spidey that isn't Peter Stark? edit: nvm Chip Zdarsky's 'Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man' Goes Back To Basics I did hear about this and forgot. super stoked.
