X-book with Gold, Blue and Weapon X!! As for Gold, I really enjoy the decoration angle Guggenheim is going for instead of the stale extinction route. The story is relevant to 2017, and keeps them at an uphill battle without their overall demise. It's relevant and keeps the uphill battle mutants face in mind without making it about extinction. It will be interesting to see if how the deportation part of the story will go. Marvel is finally tapping into the persecuted minority metaphor part of the X-Men in a way that is relevant in a modern world and its very interesting. It's a deeper issue that X-Men can't fight just by punching the villain Weapon X on the other hand was just okay. The store feels stale, but I'll give it a few issues. The chemistry of Old Man Logan and Sabretooth will keep me in the story for now. Also, I love Warpath and can't wait for his eventual escape. Now onto the main course in Blue. While nothing monumental happened in this issue, it was a great character issue that established plenty. Bunn's O5 may be my favorite portrayal of them. The interactions between Jean and Magneto in articular were well done with Jean learning something that sort of humanized Magneto to her. I'm continuing to love the characterization of Jean as well as the art style that makes her looks like a dorky and lovable teenager. The ending has me wanting the next issue now with what Magneto intends to do and the new take on Sentinels. Bunn says the next issue has a few classic villains, and I'm impatiently waiting.
Action Comics second book was good. Not a huge fan of how drawn out the doppleganger storyline is going though.
I love The Button story arc so far in Batman and Flash. also love that this week was the release of my two childhood favorites, Batman/The Shadow. It was such a great first issue. I go way back with The Shadow. Listened to tapes of the old radio show with my grandparents, rented the vhs so many times, went to an Amish run auction and would always buy a few Shadow comics. couple years ago I rounded out my collection pretty well finding old ones I missed.
Batman 21 & Flash 21: As a DC fan, I am really excited about this story. I appreciate all of the talent involved and it does feel very...DC...for a lack of a better descriptor. But, I do have reservations, which are exclusively ethical. As much as I love DC, I can't help but recognize that by using WATCHMEN, they are going against the express wishes of Alan Moore. I do wish that DC would just stop using those characters. It is a constant reminder of how poorly a corporate giant will behave if there is a chance for a profit. Of course I realize that buy purchasing these books, I am not giving DC any incentive to stop using the characters. Ugh. I just hope the pay off is worth it, so that at least my ethical cowardice in this instance has a silver lining.
Started reading One Piece like two days ago and I love this shit. I've always disliked the look of the show and couldn't get more than a few episodes in but somehow the artwork in the manga looks great despite having the same style. I'm actually looking forward to having 80+ volumes of this to read, haha.
I have no idea how I didn't know that James Stokoe was doing an ALIENS book for Dark Horse. Gonna buy / read that as soon as I get home.
That was a pretty powerful moment at the end of Flash's The Button this week. I love that they mentioned Batman's previous travels through time and even a quick glimpse of Identity Crisis. Next week should be sweet.
Kinda assumed the last volume of New 52 Batman would be throw away but its got agreat story in there. View attachment 7472
I think the new Vampirella book is exactly what it needed to be coming off of the flop. It's the same hyper sexual stuff you expect from Vamps, but hits it from an artistic, powerful woman perspective. The art on it is really nice. Though, I'm a little bit thrown by the dialog. Pretty sure that is intended.
DC REBIRTH's 'The Button' Gets Shuffled as BATMAN #22 Adds Writer, FLASH #22 Delayed this is lame. king is so much better than williamson.
disagree but whatever, i'm still excited for this. going to pick up the flash #21 today, can't wait to see how this ends. i can't help but think they're not going to reveal a ton though. they did say rebirth was going to be a two year roll out, wouldn't be surprised if we get some big event early next year really explaining everything.
Read the first trade for Black Monday Murders. Really good stuff. Sort of reminds me of a something Mark Z Danielewski would make if he wrote comics.
how's the customer service at IST? one of my books is a bit damaged. the clear plastic on the cover is peeling. will they make me ship it back?
