Four issues in. The art is awful and the story just isn't interesting to me at all. It sucks because I generally love the character. I have so much reading to catch up on that I don't mind putting it aside. On to Aquaman.
I think I got a few issues further than you. It doesn't really improve much. I am with you, I love the character. And I was a fairly sizable Simon Oliver fan. It just never really clicked for me.
Drove down to Milwaukee today for my flight. Got here and A.) my flight was delayed three hours and B.) I forgot my headphones at home, which means no podcasts, music, etc. So I went to a nearby comic store and bought some books for my flights this week. Batman Vol 1 (I Am Gotham) Aquaman Vol 1 (Geoff Johns run, can't wait to finally read this) Hawkeye Vol 1 (My Life as a Weapon) Ms. Marvel Vol 2
He has his own full Wikipedia page, as he should: Lucky the Pizza Dog - Wikipedia The issue from his perspective was so good.
Yeah, Hawkeye was really great. For as much as you guys hyped him, Lucky had pretty limited attention other than his vet visit haha. I knew I was going to love this, and I knew I should have waited until I had all 4 volumes so I could binge it, but here I am haha. Definitely adding the rest to my next IST order. How's the quality after Fraction is done?
The Jeff Lemire stuff wasn't great. When you finish the Fraction run, you should go straight to the current Hawkeye series by Kelly Thompson, which is centered on Kate Bishop and captures a lot of what made Fraction's work so good without being some lame retread or pale imitation. Dunno when the first trade comes out.
anyone going to read the flash #21 today? i have to wait until i'm home on friday, but i'm excited to see what happens next after batman #21.
Here is my purchase list for today: NEW THIS WEEK Teen Titans #7 There's Nothing There #1 Wonder Woman #21 Flash #21 Detective Comics #955 RECENTLY REDUCED ON COMIXOLOGY The Old Guard #2 Deadly Class #27
Its a HUGE ensemble. Basically includes every woman on the DC roster. There are a ton of different stories being told at the same time. Some of them are a lot of fun. There are some weaker ones, but as a whole, its worth checking out. There are rotating artists and writers. Its an online first story, so issues may be shorter depending on what is going on.
So I think I love the Aquaman Rebirth series. It actually deals with the consequences of things that happen really well. He gets the shit kicked out of him and ends up in a hospital bed. I feel like you don't see stuff like that enough. Between this and the Johns run, things have been great for the character.
Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #1 was a fun read. I was torn between excitement and concern leading up to the release, and thankfully the excitement was closer to the truth. This is a fun, weird take on a Spider-book that resembles a lot of what's come before but doesn't feel like a retread. His hallucinations of classic Scarlet Spider and his Jackal identity are fun. Also really enjoyed X-Men: Blue #2. I'm just gonna pull the trigger and put this on my pull. I already love the dynamic between the young cast, especially Jean, and Magneto. The upcoming addition of Ultimate Jimmy Hudson should be a good one.
Sucks that Supergirl: Being Super is already over with the next issue. It's been so good and this most recent issue was perfect. I wish they'd keep the creative team together and turn it into regular title. The main title is fine but this is so much better.
I haven't checked it out yet, but I'll probably grab the trade at some point when I don't have a bunch of others on my shelf to read.
It will be nice to read straight through, the cliffhangers have been brutal. Are you going to read Batman/The Shadow?
Sweet! I just read it, really good, leans heavy on the detective work which Snyder is always great at. I know nothing about The Shadow though, ha.
