The Bludhaven arc of Nightwing was great. I'd love to see Seeley write the Titans, Teen Titans, or Superman in the future.
I would wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Batman himself, i like Superman more as a character, but i do think Batman gets ends up having the best stuff. The Snyder/Capullo run is still one of thw best things I've read, the Nolan movies are still the best collection of comic book movies imo, he has maybe the best selection of villains of any character, the best comic book games, from what I've heard he has the best animated series.. I don't really care for much mainline DC stuff outside Batman, Superman and now Wonder Woman because of my girlfriend.
I'm currently working my way through early Amazing Spider-Man and loving the crap out of it. ASM Annual #1 (first Sinister Six story) was a fun slug fest, and ASM #18 was a really cool story (apparently suggested by Ditko) completely about Peter being scared to suit up again due to May's health. The writing style of 60s Marvel isn't for everyone, but I'm having a blast with it. Looking forward to getting to the second omnibus, which is where the Romita era (the best era) begins. The third omnibus and an Epic Collection volume that conveniently picks up right after said omnibus both come out in May, so I'll hopefully be able to read everything through #123 (right after Gwen's death) by the time Homecoming comes out. Excited to have the first decade of Spider-Man in my recent memory. I like that the omnibus volumes include the letters pages. I've been reading the "special announcement" section and enjoying seeing what early Marvel tales were happening at the same time as these Spidey adventures.
I recently decided I was going to read Spidey from the beginning too but those masterworks are super expensive.
You should go with the omnibus and/or "Epic Collection" volumes. That's your best cost-effective way to collect early issues in print and in color. You can get an omnibus from IST for just under $60, or get an Epic Collection trade for $20-something if you're not attached to hardcover. If you get the first omnibus, or the Epic volumes "Great Power" and "Great Responsibility," you'll have the entire Ditko run. Don't think there are Epic volumes into the Romita era yet, but I'm sure they're coming.
Oh wow! Yeah I guess I'll go with omnibus then if I can find it for 60 bucks! Thanks for the heads up
Just checked, and if you order the first 2 ASM omnibus volumes, you'll pay about $116 and get through ASM #67, including annuals.
Omnibus prices vary. These ones are normally $100. Still, you're getting them for 42% off (plus free shipping on IST orders over $50)! Significantly better deal than the Masterwork volumes, that's for sure, lol. When the third volume comes out in May, it'll probably be one of their 50% deals of the week, so be on the lookout for that!
That's super sweet. Definitely a better deal. I pay 50 or 60 for a masterworks and it only comes with 12 issues I think. What site is this again?
IST was a blessing and a curse. I got so many books for cheap. I also encountered a horrifying space problem in my apartment that resulted in me having to give away most of my stuff haha IST did a lot to convince me I needed to go all digital.
I have an order of $50+ once a week. It keeps me from spending probably three times that and the stores on trades and floppies. One should be showing up any minute now.
Hah I feel you. I got rejected for an unpaid internship today so that's how well the job hunt is going for me right now haha. Honestly impressed with myself that I didn't pull out money from the ATM at WonderCon to buy comics at the booth where they were all 50% off.
There's a both at cons I go to w/ $4 trades, which I always go crazy at... and one of 'em is this weekend! lol. That's a bummer w/ the internship. The job search struggle is real!
Oh nice! And yeah, it's been over a year so it's been a real struggle. I'm doing some writing as a paid internship for Inquisitr but they likely won't keep me on because they want a min of 2000 average page views per post and I'm at like 50 hahah.
Oh, darn. Yeah, that's a little less than 2000, lol. Hopefully your reviews for miscellaneous websites help you get to where you need to be! Do you have a specific field in mind? The downside to my career goal (youth pastor) is that it's tied to school years, so there are only so many times of year where I'm likely to find something. The wait for positions to open up is the worst.
I majored in music industry so ideally something PR/marketing based for that. I've been snagging freelance PR when I can but it's by no means been enough to move out of my parent's place and cover rent haha. I'd also take freelance writing where I can get it, though! I've done 4 internships and had a job after I finished school, but now I haven't been able to get anything more than 2 phone calls since the end of 2015.
