I picked this issue to read next after seeing your post, and I thought it was the best issue of this arc so far, lol. It's just tough 'cause, 9 issues in, Hope Larson hasn't really found an interesting story to tell, but she's generally doing a good job with the characters (which is what I care most about). Some of this feels like Larson trying to recreate the feel of the last arc, especially with the social media stuff, but that kinda goal never works out. She really needs to either find a more compelling narrative, or pass the baton to someone else. (Kelly Thompson, Kate Leth, or Mariko Tamaki could do something really great with this character.) I honestly still don't regret skipping out on BOP or often remember it exists, though, lol. That Rebirth issue did not click with me.
Yeah that's the biggest problem with her run and this issue specifically is there is just not an interesting story being told. I kind of couldn't believe the two pages Babs needed to explain data-mining, ha. The most interesting part of the issue was Alicia , I agree Hope Larson is good with the characters, but she isn't giving them much time to shine. The Burnside years always found a fun way to incorporate the social media stuff into the art and storytelling but with this one it's just like, "here's what's happening, and it's bad." Yeah people not liking BOP is the craziest mystery to me. I adore all of those characters and they've each had a lot of interesting stuff to do. It's darker and more in line with Simone's Batgirl which I miss a lot.
Going to do some catching up on comics right now. I'm a week or two behind on the DC stuff, but after that I think I'll be reading The Judas Contract.
Maybe Larson needs to read some Marvel for inspiration. The approach she's going for is very much so one that Marvel has been embracing in a lot of their books. In fact, I just read the latest Ms Marvel, and it was very similar to the Batgirl issue but much stronger, lol. Leaning into character instead of villains is a good approach for Batgirl, but you've gotta then spend enough time with said characters, like you said, instead of the plot.
I thought you were talking about Brie Larson and was going to recommend she read none of what is going on with Captain Marvel. lol
She just needs to read the entirety of Kelly Sue's work on the character ten times over. Same with the screenwriters and whoever directs that film.
Oh shit, the last page of The Flash is Insane. Reverse Flash remembering Flashpoint!. Must be what's leading into The Button.
I just use this card everywhere I go. I spend a lot and the kick back can be applied to Amazon purchases. It's wonderful.
I got a bonus at work last week and probably went a little too crazy with the purchases (as can be seen with the three statues I've ordered). I should be back to only having around $10 a month after this. lol
Hahah. I have the affiliate account too that I use for my site and whatnot, which I'm usually lucky if I get any money from that. I get stoked if I get like $3 a month from it.
All caught up on Lazarus. Definitely one of my favorites from Rucka. I noticed that issue 25 said issue 26 is coming in November 2016 and it's actually coming out next week...Wonder what happened there.
32-39 of Superman, right after Doomed. Just one really interesting story about a character I've never heard of before called Ulysses. Some great twist and turns and some of the Rebirth mysteries started there.
9 issues into the Sam Humphries Uncanny X-Force series (which I found yesterday in almost its entirety in $1 comics; just need the final issue). This is a lot of fun. The Adrian Alphona pages are the best visually. I'm all about Psylocke in this series. Also can't go wrong with Storm. Plus, Demon Bear!
i might be going to my first con next sunday Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Tom King, Andy Kubert, Jim Lee are all there i want to meet Mark Hamill but i dont want to pay $195
I love all the cons Pittsburgh has, but I wish we got more comic creators. At lease we're getting Mark Waid in (I think) May.
Yeah there are waaaay more celebs at this than comic creators. Lots of people from The Walking Dead. Just saw that Gail Simone is also there.
Where and what's it called? Dear Jesus that's a haul. Can't imagine how expensive seeing all them would be tough
Went to see how much Dustin Nguyen is selling original art for. an 8"x12" is listed at $850. I will never be able to afford that. Jesus.
