Wonder if they'll ever try to relaunch it. I feel like they probably won't, but having a good all-women team book written by a woman is cool. Maybe if Thompson keeps getting Marvel work, she could give it another go someday. Or, alternatively, I'd like to see what Kate Leth could do with the premise.
I've been reading through All-New X-Men by Bendis, and I must say, while this and his Uncanny run were clearly meant to be read together, they work decently apart as well, and it's fun revisiting the moments they crossed paths from the other perspective. This series isn't as good as Uncanny, but as someone who's grown to really appreciate the original five, it's fun spending time with them here. I particularly love Jean Grey... in part because I also don't like her in this. She's such a brat, but it's interesting to watch. Also, the art is mostly excellent. Between Immonen, Marquez, and Asrar, it's just such a solid line-up. I do realize that I don't think I have the Trial of Jean Grey crossover with GOTG, which will be weird to skip. Also, I read Battle of the Atom before starting this, which is weird 'cause while Uncanny doesn't need it, I feel like All-New kinda does... but I don't wanna reread that in its proper place in here, since that story really dragged at times, lol. Oh well. With all the weird time junk going on, maybe me reading it so out of order kinda makes sense?
Well, my LCS is officially closed. Not a good thing, but happens to be good for my wallet considering I haven't even been able to get an interview for a job since I left the one I had at the end of 2015. Thank goodness for libraries right now hah.
Did some more All-New X-Men reading, and this title makes the Bendis era critiques make more sense. The highs and lows are more prominent here than in Uncanny. Still, all the down time here is a blast. If Bendis wrote a series that was just straight up a young mutant soap opera w/out any action, I'd be all about it, lol.
Well, the past trade of Bendis' ANXM was a disappointing end. It included the Black Vortex issues, which make no sense without context. This run of trades didn't do that w/ Children of the Atom or Trial of Jean Grey, so why the heck do it here? Especially when they then left out UXM #600 (collected in the final Uncanny trade), even though it's essential for resolving this run; otherwise, it just awkwardly...ends. So weird. On the plus side, the first issue in the trade alone was worth the cost I paid for it. It's a one-of story where Emma Frost takes Jean Grey to Madripoor to practice telekinesis against the Blob, with art by Mike Del Mundo. So good!
I was so mad that the Guardians trade included Black Vortex. I had no desire to pick up x-men. The Black Vortex trade wasn't cheap, so I just dropped everything. lol
Ha, it's just such a weird choice for a run that otherwise handled crossover so well. (I like that the numbered trades skip over Children of the Atom and Trial of Jean Grey.) At least the ANXM issues had Andrea Sorrentino art, so I at least had pointless pages that were a visual treat, lol.
I just read the first trade of Morning Glories. I was pretty intrigued by the first 5 issues but for some reason the 6th didn't really grab me. Still want to see where it goes
Anyone on here recommend some x-men comics I could get into? I've heard great things about old man Logan, can I just jump into it though or are there some other stories i need to read first?! I do know the jist of wolverine's background. I actually have gambit collection tpb. Got it as a gift a while back. He was my favourite in animated series back in the day
There is an Old Man Logan book that precedes the recent one. Be sure to grab that one if you can. Its got some really really great stuff.
Thanks Henry. I will definitely check it out. Just taking a break from batman at the moment. Haha. Been reading batman stories non stop for last few months.
Current titles, or trades of past runs? If the former, there's an X-Men relaunch happening over the next few months, basically starting at the end of this month. If the latter, I have recs, but I'd be curious as to what you've already read before (if anything).
Blood spell? I don't remember there being any in there but good I love Zee so much. At least Dini's version of her minus drawing her with gigantic boobs that's gotta make her back hurt
Na, its in the solo series she had. The first issue has her and Constantine trying to figure out how to remove a mouth from his hand he got from a woman he slept with. lol
Ah yeah I distinctly remember the shower scene, I assume that's what you're referring to. I should really re-read that run, I remember it being great and really loving the character after that. Was sad to see her muted in N52
Any basically Tim, past or current. 8 haven't read any so if there are some amazing ones you could recommend? It would be appreciated. Thanks
