Guess I can post about manga in here? I started One Piece because some all the cool people in the videogame and anime thread made me reconsider giving Japanese cartoons and comics a go lol and I'm not disappointed I really really like it. I'm in Volume 2 right now and I have 6 of them. I can't wait to dive into it more.
Last issue of Scarlet Witch was a good finale. I know Henry doesn't like Del Rey, but it was nice having her do the last issue after doing the first one. Also really liked the final page... I hope it means that Scarlet Witch is gonna eventually join Waid & Del Mundo's Avengers run. That'd be fantastic. We'll have to wait and see, though.
Penultimate issue of Spider-Woman was good. The cover of the next, final issue, with Jess and company on the road, makes a lot more sense now that I know it's the end. Man, I shouldn't be bummed that this is ending after essentially 23 great issues (including pre-Secret Wars, ignoring Spiderverse tie-in at the beginning), but I'm seriously really gonna miss Jess between now and whatever her next major role is. Hopefully Dennis Hopeless gives us a fitting finale next month. Really liked the Clone Conspiracy finale. I saw a lot of negativity online and feared it'd have a weak ending, but while it totally left a lot of dangling threads for the Omega issue and ASM, and also had some convenience, I left the issue satisfied with the story it told and intrigued by what's next for Ben Reilly and Doc Ock. (And maybe Gwen? The off-screen death is too convenient. I guess she's probably really dead, but I wouldn't be shocked or mad if she conveniently found a way to live and stumbled into the Scarlet Spider book.) Read Hulk #1-3 'cause the curiosity got the better of me. This series is honestly fantastic and every bit as good as I've heard. Y'all really need to be reading it! Great character drama that reinvents the classic Hulk concept in a thoroughly engaging slow burn kinda way.
Ha, this Captain Marvel recap video has Glass Candy music as the soundtrack. Fun. Speaking of Captain Marvel, anyone reading this? Watching this recap made me miss reading Kelly Sue's run, but I didn't pull the trigger for the last series (will eventually get trades) and likewise haven't for this. After spending so much time with Kelly Sue guiding Carol's voice, I'm wary of checking this other stuff out.
I didn't like her last book much. I much prefer her grounded stories. Nothing will ever top Andrade's art/that story for me. First issue of the new book did absolutely nothing for me.
Just read the first volume of Waid and Samnee's Black Widow and holy crap! It is so good. It's an action packed spy story!
I'm of two minds when it comes to Invincible. The story is really cool, the main villain is great, love the action and the lore and there were a few issues in the 7-10 range that were absolutely incredible, but a lot of it is boring, giant pages of dialogue, usually between teenagers talking about the usual things that teenagers talk about. It's very self aware and makes fun of that fact, but that doesn't stop it from being boring as hell.
I think I'm on like issue 30, was close to giving up but I started a good arc again. I think they're on like 130ish issues and Walking Dead is on 165.
Just finished Old Man Logan (2003) on Marvel Unlimited. That was a lot of fun. Glad I'm finally putting MU to use. Also read Paper Girls Vol 2 yesterday. Have no idea what's going on but I love it. Thinking I'm finally just gonna make the switch to digital + trades
Every time I read something from Gail Simone I think she neeeds to write a horror story. Just found out about Clean Room so I'm pretty happy.
