I had heard that. I feel like that'd be hard, but I'd be all for it. Was there an arc in the Manapul series around Grodd? Definitely need to spend more time with the character.
I went to the comic store to pick up the last issue of Fight Club 2 today and saw a Batman/TMNT series that appears to only be a couple issues in. The art looks really cool, especially on the covers. Is anybody reading it?
I'm about halfway through Superior Spider Man. This is pretty good, hope it keeps up and doesn't tail off. Next up is Spider Woman.
Still need to read all of Superior Spider-Man. I have it all but I think only got like 5 issues in before getting distracted by something else. Spider-Woman is wonderful and should be read by everyone, but you can skip the first arc 'cause it's a Spider-Verse tie-in illustrated by Greg freakin' Land. Just start with, I think, #5 of that series, where she starts with the new costume.
I bought the Spider-Verse tie in because I don't pay attention. Also hate having a volume missing. My Justice League books look silly missing #3. Meh.
Fair enough. It's the same writer and co-stars Silk, so it could be decent. It's not essential to the current run, though, and I just REALLY don't want to own Land art if I can help it, lol.
It doesn't make a ton of sense out of context. I was tempted to buy the trade for SV, but $25 on one book is getting to be something I don't want to do anymore.
Haven't read it yet but didn't hear anything too bad about it. I imagine it works better than that wacky concept should. What I've seen of the art is pretty cool; I think at least part of it is by Olivier Coipel, who's cool.
Events just bug me as a completionist. Reading Star-Lord and Guardians without reading X-Men made Black Vortex impossible to follow. Don't really want to buy the trade either. Same thing happens with Spider-Woman, Superman, Justice League, etc. It's just not something I can get behind.
yeah i'm not big into events. i read the semi event i guess divided we fall / united we stand cause i love miles and wanted to read everything but i just don't care for them. it's super annoying getting past one and everything is changed and you're not sure what happened though.
I'm on the home stretch of Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. The arc right now is about how Abigal was caught on camera getting funky with a tree. lol
The key to a good event I think is having all the tie-ins 1) be in their own mini series, it sucks when a series gets interrupted by an event, and 2) the tie-ins have to stand on their on. I think back to FINAL CRISIS and thats how I wish every event was. None of the tie-ins (with the exception of superman beyond) were necessary to understand the main book but they were all still great little series which were 100% worth reading on their own. (Legion of 3 worlds is seriously a forgotten classic).
I think good events are just good self-contained stories that, regardless of gimmicks, work as a good read as a trade years later. I think the problem is more so in how the tie-ins are approached, and whether or not a company does massive relaunches too often. For tie-ins, specifically, they should either be separate miniseries that function as optional supplemental material, or happen naturally in an ongoing that doesn't derail it for those who don't read the event. For example, all I read of that United/Divided/whatever Ultimate Marvel event was the Ultimate Spider-Man trade, but it worked for Bendis' narrative, and everything needed was explained.
Shameless self-advertisement: I'm an admin of a comic group on Facebook called Comic Lovers. While I'll try to post in here more than I did on the AP thread, I'm on FB constantly. We do events and stuff like a reading club and regular discussions.
The actual name is ComicLovers. You need to send a request for admins to accept you...but everyone gets accepted.
I'm late but Superior Spiderman is great, as of what I've read. (I'm biased though because I'll love anything with Spiderman on it)
You WOULD use this relaunch to promote your group. lol. But yeah, it's a good group. Maybe some of those peeps should be invited here. I bet Anne would fit in quite nicely.
