Didn't really like any of the new Batman number 1's so haven't continued with any but I feel like I'll have to try the trades for All Star and Batman since All Star is getting Sean Murphy on art at some point and Vision blew me away so I feel like Tom King's Batman can't be too bad. I'm mostly just looking forward to Sean Murphy's own Batman book and whatever Snyder and Capullo have planned.
Snyder posted a picture on Twitter for issue 6, so I'm stoked on that. Also he DMed me after I tweeted about reviewing ASB and wanting to read AD Book Two. Was so stoked on that haha. Going to try to see if I can get him on my podcast at some point like I did with Brett Booth.
That's so freaking cool, would be awesome if you could get him on. I just read AD book 2 and it's even better than the already great first issue. It's clear what the story is about now and I'm so into it.
Nice. I probably won't get to it until the weekend. I did ask him if he'd be interested but have not heard back haha. I still plan to try to get some more comic people on, though. Just a matter of planning it out.
@Tim @Henry i see that the first two volumes of Old Man Logan are on sale today. I loved the Mark Millar story but dont really keep up with Marvel anymore besides their Star Wars books. Are the new Old Man Logan books worth checking out?
Does that include the Secret Wars tie-in "Vol. 0: Warzones" by Bendis, or does it start with "Vol. 1: Berzerker," the beginning of the Lemire run? Sorrentino was the artist for both the Bendis mini and the current Lemire series. The Bendis miniseries started out strong, with what I thought was a very good first issue and a solid second issue, but it got lost in the novelty of throwing Logan from region to region after that. I honestly don't really remember the ending besides that it had this Logan end up in the restored 616 reality post-Secret Wars. It's not wholly great and not really necessary if you already know that current OML is essentially the classic version thrust into our world. But, if it's on sale, Sorrentino illustrating Logan navigating different random realities is cool to see, and like I said, it started strong. Lemire's run picks up after that, with a disoriented Logan trying to navigate this new world. I didn't read the first arc, but it ended with him meeting up with the Extraordinary X-Men roster. I know that he goes after the Hulk at one point, not knowing that he's Amadeus Cho, and I think he also crosses paths with Kate Bishop looking for Clint Barton. Since I didn't read it, I can't speak to the quality, but if you want to see how OML gets acclimated to our world, this is where that happens. I did read Lemire's second arc, "Bordertown," which I honestly liked a lot. Even if you don't care to read all of this Lemire run, you should at least check this arc out, and then go back if you liked it enough. Basically, Logan goes up north to a small community which happens to have the young girl version of the woman he married in his reality. And, while there, Lady Deathstrike and the Reavers attack. Some really cool Logan action goes down. The last issue, where young Jean Grey (dunno when you were last caught up, but the original X-Men roster got time-displaced to present day and are still here) comforts his paranoia that the villain uprising is still gonna happen, is also pretty good. Haven't read further than that yet.
I was seeing both the Lemire runs but Bendis' is on sale as well. Those all sound pretty interesting so I will probably get all three. Thanks!
Just finished up and posted my Best of DC Rebirth list. Best of DC Rebirth | Comic Book Blog | Talking Comics
Southern Bastards Vol 2 was great. I feel really bad for people who had to wait for homecoming, so much build up.
Can't find a manga thread so would I be better off discussing that in here or the anime thread? I'm reading Berserk and it's amazing.
I can definitely see why some people would not enjoy it but I've read 10 volumes in the last two days and it's just getting better and better.
The rape stuff is just super fucked up and has zero payoff. I read it all the way through the Mermaid arc which is was later than where you are. The inconsistency of releases made me give it up. I realize the guy was sick, but waiting really did a number on me.
I think the only person who I can recall being actually raped so far is Guts and I think that's had a payoff already. I'm not sure if things get worse but it's not as dark and disturbing as I've seen some people say, although there's certainly that element here. It's just a lot better than I expected it to be, ha. Especially the artwork, for some reason I thought it'd be bad but it's fantastic. It's also the first manga I've actually read a good amount of and I've been comparing certain parts to the anime and I feel like maybe I should try the manga more often, this is a lot better than the anime.
it gets a lot worse, if you don't know what I'm referencing. Curious to hear what you think when you get there.
I've just got to the part where they find Griffith after he's been tortured for a year. It's fun going into a series that's been going on for so long and having so much to go through, I would not have liked waiting for these to come out.
Jubilee is so fabulous. I also totally love Nature Girl's antlers. This is seriously gonna be such a fun series.
Speaking of, Geoff Rickly shouted out The Vision book at the Thursday show two nights ago. Coates' Black Panther too
Confirmation that he's the one who'll write the payoff to the Rebirth Watchmen angle? Wonder if it'll follow whatever Snyder and Capullo are working on.
If you read the new issue of Titans this week they dropped the biggest hint so far. Still a super good book. JL Vs SS latest issue has a very strange third team in play, and I won't ruin who is in the team, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are aware that this reality/dimension/timeline has been warped by an outside force. I think we are going to get our first big revelation at the end of this event.
That's so awesome. And yeah, there have been some hints in JJ Vs SS. I'm wondering if Tim's situation in Detective and whatever was happing with Doomsday in Action Comics is related.
