Dark Night was not what I was expecting. This is devastating. Really happy they gave Dini a lot of freedom with this.
Yeah I wasn't expecting it to be mostly him I guess? I was expecting a Batman story centered around his experience if that makes sense. I was expecting I guess something more like Batman:Noel
Ever since reading this, I've been wanting dive into Dini's comics. Started with Gotham City Sirens Book One and can't wait to check out more. Dark Night was fantastic and devastating all at the same time. Absolutely a highlight release of 2016.
The True Amazon was really really good. Very good origin story. Not sure how close to the original canon it is. Really glad I'm finally chipping away at this pile. lol
I learned something new today. My comic store didn't have the new issue of Saga (ugh!) because the cover was apparently slightly dark which is considered a misprint and I was told Image forces the stores to "destroy" said misprints. That seems like the shittiest possible decision on their part, for one that's a massive waste of paper and it's kind of a slap in the face to people who are looking forward to your comic every month. I assume there's probably a reason but I'm assuming that's also probably stupid. The person working there didn't seem happy about it either. -- Ok, plot twist in Batman Beyond this week was awesome.
Interesting set up for the next Batgirl arc, I'm excited. And the cover this week was top notch. Supergirl: Being Super is fun so far. SG has two great comics running. Victim Syndicate conclusion was incredible...That last page sure looked like some Watchmen hints.
Read Invader Zim Vol 1 and it was basically a continuation of the show which was hilarious. The last issue was really cool too with a bunch of different video games coming into play. @Henry Binding of Isaac makes an appearance!
Well I said I didn't get Fairyland Vol 2 because I had to big of a backlog but yesterday I decided to buy a bunch of books at 2nd and Charles. I got Marvel Nemisis The Imperfects because the game was fucking awesome back in the day. Fables Animal Farm because I've been meaning to pick it up and continue the series and it was cheap. Green Lantern New 52 Vol 1 Night wing New 52 Vol 1 And Thor Ragnorok All for $30
Planning on buying one of those EC Archive books that collects some of those Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear stories. I've always been a huge MAD fan, but I've only recently started to learn about EC's horror stuff
Checked out a new shop today. Grabbed Rocket Raccoon #1 and spent more than I intended by also picking up both A.D. After Death books. Read the first one digitally and loved it. Decided I had to have an actual copy of it.
Yeah those psychical copies for AD are great. I've got book 2 sitting next to me, probably read it tonight.
Yeah seeing them in person made me want them. It's only going to be three books right? I'll likely read book two after I get my All-Star Batman and Rocket Raccoon reviews done. Plus my "Best of DC Rebirth" post.
Yeah book 3 comes out the end of January. It was technically the first thing I ever added to my pull list! haha. The conclusion to All Star Batman was for the most part really good The man cave fake out was way too easy, that's my only complaint. Post a link for your review here when you put it up!
Haha. For the best of DC Rebirth, I think I'm doing a good, better, best three-tier thing and I feel like the 3 Bat books will end up in the top tier. They''ve all been enjoyable.
That's sounds like a good idea. I've been thinking about how I was going to rate the first arcs on Goodreads when the trades come out and that's basically what I'll be doing since I don't think I read anything I'd give less than 3 stars. Each Batman is an easy 5 stars for me, for sure. I probably liked I Am Suicide the most, thought that was perfect.
Yeah I think those and Superman and Wonder Woman will grab top tier. Second I'm thinking Titans, Supergirl, Hal Jordan and the GLC. Then third will probably be The Flash, Green Lanterns, Deathstroke, and Nightwing. I know I'm missing a lot, but I think these are the ones that really stood out to me. I liked Teen Titans but it only has 3 issues so far so I'll likely leave that out.
Now that Civil War II is over, what is David Marquez gonna do next? I need more of his art in my life ASAP. Even when CWII spun its wheels in the home stretch, I still liked picking up new issues to see him churn out page after page of gorgeous art. I wouldn't mind him returning to Miles Morales, maybe alternating arcs with Sara Pichelli for an accelerated release schedule. But, I also wouldn't mind him hopping on a brand new series. I was kinda hoping he'd end up somewhere in the ResurrXion announcements, but that unfortunately didn't happen. Maybe he'll take a break until the next summer event, which hopefully won't be delayed again due to extraneous circumstances.
Also, I'm all in on Infamous Iron Man. Thought I could trade wait, but picked up #2 and 3 today. Doom coming out of godhood in Secret Wars feeling unfulfilled and becoming a force for good is so interesting. Love that, according to him, he's taking inspiration from Reed Richards and Tony Stark, who he sees as peers. There are two things I really want to come out of Infamous Iron Man. One, I want to see him include T'Challa as a peer and inspiration, with an arc where they work together to reform Latveria. Two, I want an arc where he battles The Maker 'cause a Doom-vs-Richards conflict where Richards is the villain would be super exciting. Especially if Doom ended up getting help from former members of the F4, including Thing.
