I definitely need to check out the whole thing, I've read some over the years but never fully dove in.
Nice. Yeah, the book covers issues 19-34 and I know there's at least a second book for Morrison's run.
I just don't really understand the majority of what Doom Patrol even is. I just flipped through the pages and scratched my head.
Ah okay. I'm hoping this run will clear up some of it for me. Otherwise I'll end up piecing it together via Wikipedia or something haha.
Today is absolutely depressing, but I was happy to forget about it for the length of time it took to read Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1. I cannot emphasize enough how happy this comic makes me. Gerry Conway's writing for Peter and his family is absolutely delightful, from Peter trying to remember a list of groceries, to him and MJ having a code for when he should hurry home so they can have sex, to the two of them being awesome parents for their adorable, eager child. This is my Spider-Man through and through. This issue had a couple surprise backup stories that I found quite charming, one which was written by Kate Leth and illustrated by Marguerite Sauvage! The other one was called "The Earnest Adventures of Spider-Dad" and acts as proof that daddy Peter is perfect.
This Action Comics arc is really exciting. Shade seems like a villain I'll like a lot on the Flash. I'm also reading Knightquest and all though there's some great stuff in there, it lacks the punch of Knightfall, probably because it doesn't have a center villain. And I think they should have gone with a different cover for the I Am Gotham trade. Wonder Woman was also excellent this week.
All Star Batman was great. Glad to get at least a few answers, felt they were pretty satisfying. Also "LOAD BATMAN'S #$% NOW!" Red Hood continues to be wonderful as well, the ending was insane. Birds of Prey also great, glad to have a Huntress centered issue. Detective Comics might be my current favorite Batman. I suppose I got my answer that that is not Bloom. He felt like something out of Hellraiser in this issue.
Morrison's Doom Patrol is my literal all time favourite comic. So jealous you get to experience it for the first time. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks! I have so many unread trades that I don't know when I'll get to it but I'll post thoughts here once I do.
I've been under the impression this whole time that Young Animal was G rated DC content because of the name and I just found out while reading Mother Panic that's it's the opposite. Feeling really dumb but that's a misleading name!
Clone Conspiracy is pretty cool, but I'm not picking up these other books to keep up. Hopefully its easy enough to just stick with the main book.
I think Gerard said the point of it was to have those books be in continuity whereas Vertigo is more creator-owned stuff.
To all of y'all who like Brubaker but haven't read his Catwoman work before, you really should. I'm revisiting the beginning of the run, with Darwyn Cooke art (inked by Mike Allred & colored by Matt Hollingsworth), and it's low key some of the best DC stuff I've read. Though, I'm heavily biased towards the people who worked on this, lol. I actually never got past the Cooke portion of Brubaker's run, but I own it all and think I'm gonna finally remedy that. I think I'll rotate between that, my Spider-Man by Roger Stern omnibus I put down for too long, and my big Love and Rockets by Jaime Hernandez hardcover for the time being.
Is that the one they've been rereleasing over the last year or so? I'm been tempted. My backlog is so bad right now. Not sure why I ordered things this week.
All-Star Batman keeps being so damn good. Red Hood, Flash, and Detective Comics all still great. Clone Conspiracy's twist was pretty great, totally did not see those characters and that element of Spider-man coming into play. Intrigued to read Mother Panic. I'm trying to keep up with Doom Patrol, which having barely any previous knowledge of the characters is diffifult. Shade, The Changing Girl was just too much wtf, even for me. So far Young Animal has been pretty much as weird as advertised, but Mother Panic seems like the most "normal" of the bunch.
I haven't paid attention to the rereleases, but it's collected in 3 volumes: Trail of the Catwoman, No Easy Way Down, and Under Pressure. Other writer(s) I know less about take over from there. I'm really happy I decided to read the Clone Conspiracy issues as they come out. Jim Cheung on Spider-Man is wonderful to look at, and the premise really is more interesting than simply yet another clone story for the character. I'm surprised some people think Shade is too weird and out there. It is really weird, sure, but I feel like there's a strong human element that anchors everything so far, even when the writing gets super abstract.
finally got around to uploading these photos. I purchased the Artist's Proof Editions of Huck #1 and Wytches #1. The interior pages also attached are within the first few pages of the comics to avoid any spoilers, and then I included one photo of Huck with a normal size comic on top of it to showcase the size of these editions. Really stoked on these.
Doom Patrol #3 finally got me hooked. I enjoyed the first two issues, but the third truly sold me on all the weirdness, especially since this is my first encounter with this corner of the DCU. Read Seven to Eternity #1 and #2; the art and writing are stunning. Between that, Green Valley and now Reborn, I don't care when the next ASOIAF book or season of Game of Thrones comes out.
