I stare at the cover to Devolution every time I go into Barnes and Noble because I think Jae Lee is the best artist in the world. Didn't even realize it was a Remender book. Snagged immediately. Also B&N has b2g1 free on Marvel and DC. Picked up Vision, Ultimates and Weirdworld.
Grabbed some of the free Halloween comicfest issues today. Grabbed Arkham Asylum while I was at it since the store had 30% off on trades.
My local comic book store was having a sale for Halloween comic fest on used and new trades. They had a ton of used stuff on discount and we got Hawkeye Vol. 2 to 4, Greg Rucka Punisher Vol. 1, Huck Vol. 1, Safe Area by Joseph Sacco, The Authority Vol. 1, Justice League Dark Vol 1, Old Man Logan Vol 1 by Lemire, Ant-Man Vol 1 by Spencer, and Daredevil: The Man Without Fear for 60 bucks. Hoping that Daredevil wins me over because Born Again was rough. Someone got there before me and bought a bunch of Daredevil stuff and I'm praying it wasn't Mark Waid, Bendis, or Brubaker because I've read parts of those and they're genius.
Has anyone gotten a print subscription from Image before? I think I'm going to do it with Nailbiter since I have the next trade coming Tuesday and I can't trade wait anymore. Also my comic store doesn't get new issues. EDIT: Oh hey, also noticed the new Nailbiter trade comes with the Hack/Slash crossover...Sweet.
Is Vision good for newcomers? I have the first trade checked out from the library cuz I've heard such great things
Went to Books a Million after church to get a new Bible and also walked out with a couple super-cheap trades. Jesus and superheroes, y'all; my life summarized in just a few words. Got Savage Wolverine vol. 2 (with art from Joe Madureira and Jock) and Battleworld: Master of Kung Fu.
Read a bunch of Marvel books so far today. All New Wolverine was pretty good. I'm not huge on the Civil War stuff, but I felt like they handled it pretty well. The stuff with the robbers and the pet wolverine were both great. The first arc for Ms. Marvel was a lot of fun. Loki is a great character to keep pulling into that book. The Doppelganger stuff was hilarious and great. I also loved the tolerance and acceptance bit with the two families. This book is so well written. Vision was not what I expected in the best way possible. Darth Vader continues to be one of the best books out there. Both main storyline books have been excellent. Not sure how it took me this long to realize Gillen was the writer. Astonishing Ant-Man is so wonderful. I'm so glad Spencer did a lot of call-backs to Superior Foes. This scene in particular was wonderful.
Wow. The feels for that final issue of Vision. What a perfect book. Absolutely buying it in a hardcover if if ever comes out. Ultimates and New Avengers are both coming to an end, but at least they are both being essentially relaunched, although it looks like New Avengers is losing several members, which is sad cause I love every member on that huge team. Some huge revelations about The Maker as well. I think if Hickman doesn't come back for the Fantastic Four comeback, they're setting up Ewing to bring them back. I think Al Ewing might be my new favorite writer at Marvel now that Hickman, King, Remender, and even Fraction are all gone now. At least they still have Jeff Lemire too.
I believe he is, aside from his creator-owned content. Extraordinary X-men, Moon Knight, are all pretty great, and his upcoming Thanos looks promising as well.
Just finished Deadly Class Volume 4. Felt like that ending was coming but I was still shocked when it did.
Hopefully its a good book. Red Hood was horrible but that art was soooo good. Yeah. All the emotions.
I'm going to a Comicon this weekend and told myself I'd limit my buying in the lead-up... but, after BAM, I went with a friend to HPB and spent... money. lol. I got a big Love and Rockets ("Locas: The Maggie and Hopey Stories") hardcover for $50, which is a lot, but this edition is real nice and out of print and goes for $80-100 online, so worth it! I have one of the volumes collected in here and really liked it, so I'm excited to read through the whole Maggie/Hopey narrative. Also got Savage Wolverine vol. 3 hardcover for only $8, and also finally bought Afterlife With Archie vol. 1 (Francavilla!!!). And, bought Batman Noir: Dark Knight Returns hardcover for my brother for only $13. The cover is dirty and whatnot, but a third of cover price for that thing ain't bad at all. Now to stop spending... until I go for broke this weekend! And then force myself to fast on new comics outside my pull 'til next year, lol.
The good thing now is that with the Rebirth launch, Red Hood is now a great looking book AND it's a greatly written book.
Oh you're right I think he's involved with Bloodshot. Well I'm almost positive I remember reading he's exclusive to Marvel between the big 2.
I haven't posted in a while, but in between Star Wars novels and Wheel of Time, I've really enjoyed: Whedon's Astonishing X-men Identity Crisis Old Man Logan Spider-Man/Deadpool All of the Secret Invasion/Secret Wars stuff I've been plowing through on my Hickman run reading order.
Devolution is a weird book. Definitely has a big Remender feel to it, but the overuse of profanity, castration, and a neo-Nazi villain are throwing me for a loop.
