Layman writes Chew. Also did a run on Detective Comics and some Marvel stuff lately. Tyler James owns the publisher ComixTribe. Very VERY small publisher with maybe around 10 or so published series in the past few years
OH duh. I've been meaning to read Chew. Local library has 3 of the oversized hardcover editions. I'll check out Tyler James. Thanks!
In addition to all the others mentioned, Jeff Lemire, Benjamin Percy, and Matt Fraction. Best of luck! :)
Well you guys are definitely planning to keep me busy! Haha. I'll try to get who I can get in touch with and hope I can get to most of them at some point!
Kieron Gillen would be great. And he had a podcast himself, so understands the grind. Might be more amenable.
Okay! I think I'm gonna have to cap the list here. I have 23 right now haha. And that doesn't even include my regular guests I'll be having on.
Read the fourth trades of Nailbiter and Divine + Wicked tonight. Loved them both. Also got through Red Thorn. What a confusing ass book.
CABLE Joins Wave of New X-MEN Ongoings Out of ResurrXion It continues. (Or is this the last announcement for now, since it's Friday?)
Feel like this might be the last announcement, at least for a while. Honestly, these have been some pretty perplexing book choices. I've never liked Cable going off on his own, he's been best as part of a team like in the last few volumes of X-Force. Hope this all means some significant shake-ups to the Extraordinary, Uncanny, and All-New teams. Actually now that I think about it, there aren't many changes I would welcome at the moment to the Extraordinary team. it's funny that Iceman and Jean Grey are getting solo books, because those are probably the only two members I would want to switch out. The core of Storm, Old Man Logan, Forge, Nightcrawler, and Illyana is great. I would hope Rachel Grey replaces Jean, but after the Civil War tie-in I see her more likely replacing Psylocke on Magneto's Uncanny team.
I will be really curious to see what the line-up and creative team are for Generation X. The Gillen issues of Generation Hope were amazing. And the original Gen X was awesome.
I hope we get one more team book. Did anyone else read that volume of X-Men aa the start of old Marvel Now that was the all female team of Psylocke, Storm, Rogue, Kitty, Rachel Grey, and Jubilee? That book was fucking awesome.
Marvel Announces Two X-Men Team Books X-Men Gold and Blue teams in separate books, plus a Generation X series and a Cable solo series... Yep, Marvel is totally appealing to people who read X-Men in the 90s and then left comics, lol.
This makes me feel like I need to start reading X-Men comics. I've read very few and don't recall putting too many in my MU library.
Awesome. So it looks like Blue team will be the new form of the current All-New team based on the images, and Gold team will be the new incarnation of the current Extraordinary team.
When you do, the best route is probably Grant Morrison's New X-Men run, followed by Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. Those two runs, which came out in that order, are the peak of modern X-Men in most people's eyes. After that, either read some more modern stuff (which others here can better recommend) or dig into some of Chris Claremont's MASSIVE ('75-'91) classic run, which is overly verbose but has some great stories and basically defined much of what the X-Men are all about.
Thanks! Apparently I had already added more than I thought. I'll add Morrison and Claremont now. Current list: Astonishing X-Men (2004) X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills Avengers vs. X-Men (2012) A + X (2012) All-New X-Men (2012) Amazing X-Men (2013) Extraordinary X-Men (2015)
The All-New X-Men you have was written by Bendis at the same time as his Uncanny X-Men series. I've read little of either, so I can't comment on if they need read together or anything, but it's just worth noting. God Loves Man Kills is a Claremont graphic novel. Good stuff. Haven't read AvX or Amazing at all, so can't comment on them, lol.
Oh I'll look into a reading order for those then. Thanks for the heads up. Reminds me that I wish MU had a few more features like if you're reading this, then X goes with it as well. And search is kind of horrible haha. You can click on a creator and only get some of their works instead of everything. But still love the app anyway, it's useful.
