I've been getting through books pretty fast lately too. I've already read six trades of Chew in about two weeks. I've got two more on the way.

    Pretty Deadly is awesome.
I'm not really sure if I'm into Phonogram. I've noticed that Gillen's writing can be a bit hard to follow.
Reread Endgame. Might be one of the best Bat books I've ever read. Snyder is the perfect writer for him. And the art continues to blow me away.

not sure what trade’s of phonogram you’re reading, but the first time I read vol 1 I found it completely incomprehensible, I kept with it though and found my self enjoying vol 2 a lot more. Whenever I try to get someone into that series I always give them vol 2 first just because its a lot more focused.

Haven't read Phongram yet but i read the first 4 issues of Wicked + Divine and didn't understand any of it.

I've only read the first volume, but didn't get much out of it. Given the time in between volumes, I'm willing to give it another go. I love The Wicked + The Divine, so I'll likely order it next time around.

The first two volumes were pretty great. Reading the wiki page for it helped me understand a lot. My biggest problem was keeping up with who was who. Once I got to the third volume I was scratching my head again. lol

yeah if you dug Wicked + The Divine then I think the 2nd trade of phonogram will be more up your ally.

If I ever get around to it i'll try doing that too. My wife read the same issues and enjoyed it so who knows haha. I'm so far behind on everything i don't know if i'll ever get caught up.

Has anyone here read Wonder Woman Earth One? I’ve been wanting to pick it up because Morrison is my favourite writer, but I’ve heard some troublesome things about it. Is it worth buying?

I'm just now getting into his current Batman run but based on the video, I'll have to collect this in trades as well.

    hey i'm back.

    ok so:
not sure how i feel about the new 52 WW origin...something just feels off about it. it's...i don't know how to express it. i do like it otherwise though. it's very witty, intriguing, the characters are interesting, and Hades and Hermes made me laugh quite a bit :crylaugh:

supergirl...eh it was alright i guess? nothing special. i felt it went really really slow until the end (of vol 1). kind of interested in where it's going, but not as interested as WW + BG.

really love gail simone's batgirl. so intense, the dialogue is captivating, like seeing nightwing and batman on occasion. there's so much going on, and it's really exciting. the subtle comic relief babs provides is refreshing too. i really like reading her thoughts. AND i am more invested in the villains in this one.

The weirdest thing for me was the version of Ares they use. I'm not sure if you saw him yet, but he is basically nothing like the usual DC Ares. I prefer old man Ares though. Dude is awesome.

Supergirl is an interesting one. The first trade was definitely a 'growing problems' kinda deal. The introduction of that villain group is pretty cool. Of the three you are read, it definitely is the weakest though.

Just wait. It only gets better. Babs is awesome and the family dynamic is intense. I don't know if it is in the first trade, but a villain Gail created is in there and he is awesome.

@lightning13, I honestly preferred the New 52 origin more. I like that she's the daughter of a God and (spoiler alert?) becomes one herself by the end of the run.

Doesn't anyone here read comic book reviews on a regular basis? I mentioned previously that I'll be starting to review some but wanted to get a feel for what you all think about them.

I peruse IGN's weekly reviews but that's about it.

I don't like comic reviews. It feels unfair of being too critical on a single issue of a book. It's one reason I'm totally cool with trade waiting.

I tend to be more interested in arc reviews than issue reviews. Like, I'll look up Amazon user reviews before I'll look at weekly issue reviews on various site. If I knew of a reviewer who tackled comics on an arc-by-arc basis, and their tastes didn't differ widely from mine, I'd follow them.

Reading Death in the Family now. Really wish I could have read it in real time for effect.

This is all super helpful! I should have specified that I have trades to review so it will be more arc based. Cyborg Vol. 1 and Batman Vol. 8 are on my list for this week.

I've typically only read #1 issue reviews to see if I'll be interested. I also listen to the Talking Comics podcast to better keep up on weekly stuff I may be interested in as a trade later.

Maybe you could do arc/trade "reviews" and #1 "first impressions"? There's probably a market out there for weekly first impressions of all that week's debuts.

Yeah I would love to do that, but without a job right now, I likely won't be buying #1 issues or single issues much in general. The trades I have I got through NetGalley, which is a site to get book advances and they seemed to only have trades. I'd likely have to hit up publishers individually for single issues if I wanted to go that route. Definitely appreciate the suggestion though!

My site isn't exactly popular so may be difficult to get copies of things I'm new at reviewing hah. But won't hurt to try for sure.

Thinking of getting Marvel Unlimited. But the reviews on the app store have me worried it doesn't actually work well.

I have it and honestly haven't had too many issues with it. Sometimes a page here and there won't load but that's more likely because of my internet connection. People have mentioned stuff leaving their library, missing pages, etc. but I've never had those problems with it. Maybe do the free trial and see how it works for you first.
