The second episode of Welcome To Geekdom is all about libraries and I definitely bring up comics a couple times (mostly how not organized they are in our libraries). Welcome to Geekdom Episode 002: We Love Libraries
Finished Mythic. The way they closed it out was hilarious. Reading the third trade of Star Wars now. Love it.
What did you do today? I had a debate with Rob Liefeld on Twitter about whether or not Iron Fist is racially problematic.
lol. Basically. Oh well. I got a lot of people on his side in my mentions and got called an SJW, and even told that I "killed comics," lol. But, at least a couple people reacted reasonably.
I hope he does all of the art for that series. Also I just read the first volume of New Avengers by BMB earlier and I loved it.
Finished Giant Days Vol. 3 and it is by far one of my favorites currently. Just a super light and fun read. I have so many shelved but unread books in my room haha grad school is killer.
LEMIRE & SNYDER Find Cure For Death, Explore What's Next In A.D.: AFTER DEATH I'm really excited about this. the 80 page oversized magazine format sounds rad. also enjoy knowing from time to time that i'll be collecting 3 parts and then it just stops haha.
anyone ever read Crossed from 2008-2010? Going through that, very brutal stuff, but intriguing. On issue 004 now.
I was able to read Brigg's Land 1 and Black Hammer 1 & 2 last night. Really impressed by both. Brigg's Land could have used some added pages to make the first issue a little more substantial, but I trust Brian Wood to really round out these characters. And I found Black Hammer to be very engaging. Like LOST, but with superheroes! Hopefully, it is a lot of fun moving forward. And I have to say, the early standout for me with the DC Rebirth books is the Bat family. Batman, Tec, Nightwing, and Batgirl have all been wonderful. The only one that falls flat with me is Birds of Prey.
Climax to Godspeed story was underwhelming So does that mean I'm still the only person that likes new Birds of Prey? I don't get it!
I only read the Rebirth issue, but it was pretty underwhelming in comparison. And with only so much money to spend each month, it just didn't make the cut. In a perfect world, I would be reading it though! Because I dig those characters working together.
The Clone Conspiracy looks to be a pretty crazy Spider-Man story. This issue didn't extend the story far past the preestablished premise, but for the sake of the mini reading well on its own, that's fine. Jim Cheung is great, and I'm excited for what's next. I also really liked the backup story with Ron Frenz art in the style of classic Marvel, establishing Gwen's perspective; I didn't know that was in there until I read the issue. All-Star Batman continues to be wild. The Bruce/Harvey backstory was cool, and that ending makes me curious as to how the rest of this story will play out. This story is simultaneously so ridiculous and so intense, lol.
Picked up The Midas Flesh at NYCC and am halfway through the first volume. Really interesting so far, plus I just love Ryan North's writing style
It's a bit esoteric, but a zombie like outbreak which the humans refer to as "Crossed" is taking over the world where the crossed are hyper sexual sadistic creatures. What is notable about it are the absolutely explicit illustrations of dismemberment and devious nature. I am in no way squeamish nor prudish, but this is fucked. I am enjoying it because it's been quite awhile since I have read a comic or graphic novel that has captivated me like this, but it is downright vile at times. You've been warned, recommend so far, but you've been warned.
Just finished up The Clone Conspiracy. Hadn't been following it with ASM, but I'll have to go back and read that. Despite not being caught up on that, it was still an enjoyable issue for me.
I'm interested to see where it goes. I'm kind of bored of Peter (tony stark) Parker industries. but it's still be an interesting and enjoyable story overall. enjoying "Spidey" more though.
I read through the first issue of ASM and this so far, so it's still new to me. I haven't kept up as much with new Marvel stuff lately since I mainly read through Unlimited.
I wish DC would come out with an Unlimited type subscription too. Would save on my bank account I could just read from there and then get the trades of what I want to own, though I do enjoy getting individual issues of some stuff too.
Yeah I've been grabbing the Rebirth one-shots for the new DC stuff. Otherwise, I just pick up one or two things a week when I'm reviewing stuff for Talking Comics.
The upcoming Avengers series includes Peter Parker and has the team operating out of Parker Industries' Baxter Building, so this status quo probably isn't going away any time soon, lol.
