I only read the hard covers of John's GL run. The only cross over ones I got were the "Blackest Night" ones and the "GL Corps: War of the Green Lantern Aftermath" which you should read after you finish War of the Green Lanterns but before you start the NEW 52. I ended with The End because Johns left and I don't really know where you go from there. Stakes were already at the highest they could go lol. One of the best series I've ever read though. Huge hope for the movie!
Picked up a few things today. Red One #3 Doom Patrol #1 Deadly Class # 22 Snot Girl #3 Harley Quinn #1 Josie and the Pussycats #1
I don't remember specific news about that title's end, but I did see on Twitter that Kate Leth's Vampirella ended, and I know that Amy Chu will be writing a Red Sonja title with the classic look. My guess is that the shake-ups were a low-key disappointment.
That's a big bummer. I really liked the first two issues. Having Gail as creative lead on those three books was awesome. I guess all people want from Dynamite books is bewbs and blood. edit: looks like it ended with issue 6.
Maybe they weren't able to market well enough outside of their base and have a base almost as crumby as Zenescope's, lol. It's a shame, but if Gail Simone is still there, hopefully she'll slowly turn the ship for the better. The artist choice for the new series, if the character sketches are any indication, is... disappointing: AMY CHU Takes Over RED SONJA As She Returns To Classic Costume That link mentions that the #0 issue will be 25 cents, which furthers the idea that those relaunches sold poorly.
Picked up the Batman Beyond and Teen Titans Rebirth issues today. My LCS didn't have Surgeon X for some reason even though it's a new Image #1. I"ll be reviewing that and Detective this week. Looking forward to checking out Teen Titans the most, though! In other news, read The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 1 finally. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I think reading the next two might be worthwhile. I felt that way at first but when issue 5 wrapped up I had a better grasp on it.
Picked up Batman Beyond Rebirth (never read BB before), Batgirl, SS, and Detective. Also got the 6th trade for saga and Issue 38 so I'll finally be able to catch up! They were sold out of issue 37 so I'll have to get that online.
Yeah I'm definitely going to read everything leading into the New 52, my goal is to be completely caught up so the new issues of Hal Jordan and Green Lanterns make as much sense as possible. The series really is incredible though, quite often I find myself blown away either by a particularly beautiful page or a remarkably written twist.
Well the story continues in the new 52 so def read everything until Johns leaves. He wraps up the story very well. For some reason GL was the only book I know of that wasn't rebooted or changed in the New 52. It just picks up and continues the story.
Between Ms Marvel and Saga, there are too many downer endings this week, dang it. Though, at least only one of them involves a death.
Thoughts on the other issues I read today: Batgirl was fun, but I'm definitely looking forward to her return to Burnside. This trip across Asia hasn't been bad but also hasn't been super compelling. With a couple issues left in the arc, I'm already ready for whatever's next. Snot Girl continues to be... weird... and wonderful. I don't 100% understand what's going on, which I didn't expect to be the case, but it's also silly and interesting, so it works. Spider-Woman was illustrated by Veronica Fish this week, and the transition from Javier Rodriguez isn't as annoying as I feared. I've liked the previous Fish work I've seen, but I thought she might end up feeling like a pale imitation of Rodriguez. While I don't like her quite as much, if she keeps up like this, I won't have to put any thought into missing Rodriguez going forward.
I pretty much feel the same about Batgirl. I do really enjoy the little moments like Babs eating or talking to that weirdo on the plane. Batman Beyond Rebirth was really good, I believe I am going to start reading the previous runs now.
Yeah, there are signs that Hope Larson has a good grasp on Barbara Gordon. I think she just needs a better story to throw that character into. Granted, nothing has been bad so far, and it could end strong, but so far, I think it's merely decent. Maybe bringing her Burnside cast back into the mix will help.
