Barely remember anything about master of none but I think I liked season 1 but season 2 stunk and they were in Italy or something?

the only thing i remember about master of none was that it was an early 'hit' for netflix, though i never watched it.

That one sign language only episode was cool

I thought Master of None had some moments but I do remember the Italian neorealism homage because making a stylistic parody/homage of Italian neorealism was literally an assignment in my first year of film school and students in my classes made better short films than the Master of None Bicycle Thieves episode. That show often felt like Aziz was a first year film student.

    Alan Yang is talented, though.

Yeah, Aziz fell up his own ass in season 2 and, even though it’s not a one-to-one comp, got completely lapped by “Atlanta” in the comedian-trying to make-an-artsy-show category.

    Ugh, I hate America. Supporter

Didn’t the allegations against him also cause a huge delay? And that was also why the show shifted focus to the other characters.

The worst part coming to mind for me is when they crashed a wedding of Eric from Tim and Eric's ex, and made the wedding about them. Which the bride and groom encouraged? It was more nonsense than any sitcom and packaged as the realistic artsy Italian shit.

Like I said, I don't think he can act or write and has been propped up by talented writers and directors. Plus he's a weird creep. Poor Keanu.

the back half of s2 is very good. the show in both seasons has a problem of all of the dialogue, which doesn’t necessarily seem poorly written, sounding terrible and stilted bc every actor on the show was very bad

WTF ending makes sense with them recycling past guests and having a lot more casual and topical conversations lately. I’m curious what the economics of a podcast like that looks like today versus 10 years ago and whether part of the decision was to go out semi on top instead of stick around for the full economic/cultural relevance end of the show. Personally, I feel like I blinked three years ago and a lot of the podcasts I used to think were the popular comedy podcasts suddenly were in the cultural rear view.

Definitely worried about Bottlerocket expanding. Happy for them, but tickets are already getting pretty expensive and they’ve started hosting some bigger shows at different venues instead of their tiny bar. Feel like it’s only a matter of time before I’m priced out

excited to see Hanford and Pepitone this month though

Not sure if it has reached the greater comedy nerd fandom but within the performer community, UCB being owned by a sports-focused VC firm is a bit controversial. A lot of people see an inevitable end result and a lot of people just want to enjoy the immediate benefit of there being financial support for the theater.

I read some more about this Bottlerocket/UCB partnership on Reddit and it sounds like the main BR dude can’t really go into detail on the business arrangements that would have the most implications on exactly what this partnership will look like and he is also using his words carefully to hype up that they’re gonna have UCB folks come in and be in charge to get things up and running while not fully engaging with questions on what that means local staff and teachers and artists for the time being. I don’t know BR enough to say anything else but I know that prices at UCB went way up after they were purchased and that folks who have worked there have had relatable issues that one may expect when working at an artistic space that is owned by a large investment company.
