I am halfway through listening to this episode and I don't know about it. I think Lisa is funny and enjoy her elsewhere, but there are so many forced bits and moves so fast, it's like a stereotype of an "improv person". I know Pete is having fun playing with her, but when he tries to make it more serious and YMIW-y it goes off the rails so quickly. Find it more annoying than entertaining TBH.

I find anything with Pete Holmes to be more annoying than entertaining, typically

I saw it beginning of the year and it was a dumb fun time, worth checking out!

 

Yeah I heard Stavvy himself described it as extremely dumb on purpose in the best way.

 

Also supposedly Stavvy gonna have a supporting role in this year's Yorgos joint

 

I saw a meltdown on twitter from alt right chuds who are cumtown fans because Stavvy had proceeds going to a trans charity

 

Very weird. Like did they just ignore that all the Cumtown guys were close friends with the Chapo crew and that Stavvy and Adam were very vocal Bernie 2020 guys?

Nick is a self admitted anti-politics blackpilled nihilist, but Adam and Stav were never right wing lol

Yeah, you don't have to be alt-right to attract that crowd if most of your schtick is ironic racism and slurs

 

To play a bit of devil's advocate just for Stavvy and Stavvy alone. If you listened to Cumtown it's very clear most of that was generated by Nick Mullen. I don't remember him ever doing ironic slurs on Cumtown. Stav and Adam would laugh at that shit sure, but Nick was usually the one saying it. Stavvy has toned way way down since he went out on his own, and hasn't really done that in years. I definitely get the thinking that way about him by his association though.

 

I definitely meant more Nick and Adam, Stavvy is legit funny

 

Kyle Cease walked so that Pete Holmes could run.

Holmes left the church but he took the non-denominational mega-church confidence and public speaker/guru vibes with him and applied them to comedy and new age spirituality. I always thought it was a bit weird when he became the guy for Conan and then Apatow for a minute because it made me wonder whether Conan and Apatow were out of touch enough that they saw Holmes’ supreme self-confidence and conflated that with him being top of his class of rising stand up comedians (and whether that affirms the industry’s conflation of hyper-confidence with talent). I don’t think he’s bad but there are much better people in his wave of comedians who I’d have rather seen given their own talk show and Louie-style HBO show, IMO.

 

I liked Crashing but think Holmes whole schtick stinks now

 

Just saw Dan Licata, so fucking funny

 

There are some legit funny Pete Holmes sketches from his show and Crashing was decent, but it’s clear he made his way up the ladder just by being friends with people in high places. His whole guru mindset, defending Louis CK and Mitch from the Doughboys not liking him for his interviews with Harris soured me on him.

 

Never was a fan of Pete Holmes standup but oddly adored Crashing

 

Pete Holmes gives me Ellen vibes. Nothing to base it of off but he seems like he’s secretly a giant asshole.

 

I’ve met him a couple times, including at a restaurant, and he was very nice each time. For what it’s worth.

 

I can’t remember but are you seeing Rory next month?

 

I also think Pete gives off a strange, indescribable asshole vibe, while at the same time believing he’s a harmless goofball. I don’t think he’s secretly an asshole, but he seems like he is regardless.
