I think the last time I had respect for Seinfeld was on that “Talking Funny” special where Louis CK and Ricky Gervais were laughing along with Chris Rock about how they say the N-word and Seinfeld was like “I don’t really find the humor in it, nor do I seek it out” and also that he keeps his comedy clean because he feels swearing is too easy of a route.

Sad that he’s taking the easiest, laziest route to complain about comedy, when one of the biggest standups out (Nate Bargartze) has the cleanest set on the planet and absolutely no PC police are having any effect on comedy.

I saw Birbiglia’s new hour on Saturday and, of course, it’s great. Another example of a clean comedian selling out 4 shows at one of the biggest theaters in one of the US’s biggest cities (Chicago Theatre).

Seinfelds right. The woke left shit is killing comedy. He should still be allowed to date 16 year olds like he did back when he was in his late 30’s

    sick of this pussy shit!

Yeah woke cancelled everything that’s why Joe Rogan releases 19 hours of podcasting a week.

You don’t even have to be clean. Just be fucking funny. You can say the most offensive shit but at least craft it into a joke. Don’t be Chappelle sitting on stage smoking cigarettes and bitching that he can’t say trans slurs anymore

Yeah, I definitely don’t think you need to be clean. Just don’t be lazy as hell with your jokes or criticism, you crusty rich guy.

I would love for Jerry to explain to me how PC crap caused a show like Always Sunny to have like 16 seasons and counting

Yeah and he never changed either. He met his current wife when she was 26, newly married and he was like 43 and at the height of his tv empire. Predatory POS.

What do people with a ~20 year differential in a romantic relationship even say to each other?

  10. Pretty sure Jerry was asking his 16-year-old girlfriend if she needed help with her homework.

The Letterman/Mulaney Netflix interview felt a little weird. I don't think Letterman is a very good long form interviewer. He would change the subject as soon as he hit on something good instead of digging deeper a lot. Some parts felt a bit awkward. Like there was a part where Mulaney asked him a personal question and he got a little defensive.

Mulaney's podcast interview with Conan was better and funnier.

I thought it was crazy they were able to get John’s dad on camera. That was an unexpectedly emotional moment that I feel like got cut down for time. Agreed that Letterman would draw back when he hit on certain things with Mulaney’s addiction, possibly because he realized he was out of his depth of knowledge.

I think if you’re referring to the question John asked about his mom - as a Letterman head, I think Dave was really close with his mom, as she was always on the show up until her death, and I think he still takes her loss really personal. My read on his response was more that he didn’t want to talk about it because he would basically break down and he didn’t want to do that in front of an audience. Or it could just be that he doesn’t want to talk about it and give John the same level of vulnerability that John was giving him, which would be typical Letterman.

I also liked the explanation of “One black coffee,” which is such a typical dad tuning out the kids. And John correcting his own humility by saying that actually, he did think he was funny enough to perform at the Hollywood Bowl.

Mulaney did the same thing in his Conan interview where he started asking Conan deep personal questions to try to turn it more into a conversation. In contrast Conan had no issue opening up to his guest.

  16. I haven't seen the interview, but all of the Letterman interviews I've seen have been great and I don't think him declining to answer a personal question makes him a worse interviewer. People have different comfort levels

I don’t think he’s a bad interviewer for that - or a bad host in general - when you watch it, you can kind of see John is needling him because Dave’s asked so many personal questions and John wants to see if he can turn the tables. Dave’s not onboard and they move on, so it’s fine.

I think it’s more that Dave tends to cut him off or switch subjects when John’s willing to delve farther into his addiction or life. That might just be the showman in him that instinctually wants to move things along or he just doesn’t have the tools to navigate that kind of conversation. Either way, it’s still pretty interesting and something only someone with Dave’s pull could do.

Saw I Think You Should Leave last night and really enjoyed it. Showed a few sketches that they said were cut. Did some improv. I was surprised they didn’t advertise any of the others. They just said Tim and Zach. Then Wittmer, Sam Richardson and Patti Harrison were all there to my surprise.
