I know people that listen to Joe Rogan and he gets talked about other places but I legit don't know anyone who listens to Tim Dillon or see him get talked about except when he randomly pops on like this

 

There’s a romantic idea that stand up exists off the grid of morality or ethics as some kind of exalted Wild West of philosopher deviants and the outside world could never understand it, nor should they ever impose their own morality and ethics on to it, but the reality is there’s just a ton of jerks and a lot of people have a “well, they’re not a jerk to me personally” or “yeah they’re a jerk, but it helps my career to work with them” approach.

There’s also a reasonable erosion of principles due to the fact that any career in the entertainment industry is going to involve working with some lascivious individuals, so, even if you take a public stand against certain comedians or people, you’re gonna end up working for worse people that you can’t afford to publicly denounce or cut ties with. Sometimes they’re famous people and sometimes they’re people Behind-the-scenes that no one knows. So, the best you can do if you’re a truly upstanding person is fight the battles you can fight and accept that you’re going to be hypocritical and flawed when it comes to your views and the work you do.

if you’re not an upstanding person, it’s really easy to view it all as a racket and think “I’m just gonna do whatever I have to do to make the most money or get the most out of this for myself.”

There’s more gray area to it all and no one views themselves as reductively as I’ve framed it but this is what I’ve seen with friends who have navigated both standup and industry careers and either transitioned into trying to make things better locally and in ways they can or they pivoted to pandering to problematic crowds that pay their bills and trying to leech fans from bad dudes with followings.

 

This bit is great, so I've been watching the other clips of Jordan Jensen within this thread. I think I may have a new fav to be on the lookout for.
