yeah i liked it quite a bit

 

Yeah, it was great. I still thought he was quite likable even though the point of his stories was the opposite, and it was interesting and insightful seeing him be so candid while not losing any of his storytelling charm

 

i am surprised how little he talks about the divorce. i thought it'd be a bit more wide-ranging of the last two years and not so hyper-focused. probably better for it.

 

I'm glad how open he is though about his struggles, and how great of a support team he has around him. Appears to be doing much better now

 

Enjoyed the new Mulaney special. Was surprised how long it was but I ended up laughing much more than I expected.

 

New Mulaney was fantastic. I related to way too much of it.

 

Yeah, this is definitely one of Mulaney’s best.

 

it reminded me of a birbiglia type special with more storytelling than anything else for the first hour and then he just lets it rip nonstop for 5 minutes lol

 

The January 6th stuff, the support horses and the article at the end all had me cracking up.

I thought this too, but I agree. I think his bit at the beginning where he referenced his reputation changing with it and then not bringing it up again but choosing to focus solely on his recovery was definitely a deliberate choice he thought was better for it. I know all the material was v vulnerable and honest but going through a divorce is definitely more difficult to tackle in a parasocial setting when you're already unloading so much. So ya I agree, probably better off without it

It's really sticking with me and I want to rewatch it right after his previous ones

 

The ending is so good

 

It's really, really good. In addition to the subject matter, I think he dialed his deliver down a good amount, which was the one thing always holding me back from enjoying his stand-up. Still comes through in some bits for sure, but way more selectively, so it didn't grate on me. Definite Birbiglia vibes.

 

The way he talks about drugs reminds me of Harris Wittels on You Made It Weird, minus having annoying host cackling at everything. Mulaney talks so clinically and matter-of-fact about it that you appreciate that he’s not holding back (even though he tells you there are stories he’s not telling).

 

That Rolex story was pretty damn bad as is, I couldn’t imagine what else he did and I don’t want to honestly.

 

seeing Jo Firestone tonight. Not sure what to expect but should be good

 

Resubscribed to Netflix to watch new Mulaney and saw the trailer for Bert Kreischer so watching that instead

Jo Firestone does in fact rule. I've said this before but I should really start listening to Dr. Gameshow again.

 

Joe DeRosa is cool sometimes but also kinda of associate with dumbasses.

 

Mulaney special is obviously a lot different in tone than all of his other stuff but he really makes it work, incredible how he adapts his style into that ultra-confessional material that he knows will really change how people look at him. What an amazing comedian
