I mean...I get it. I think the point is less about Mulaney and more about the amount of attention the story is getting because of Mulaney's image and fandom, which shouldn't be happening because A) these things shouldn't be super public unless the person going through it makes that choice and B) we as a culture should do better to care about anyone who is struggling with addiction, regardless of their status or whether they made a thing we like. I didn't read it as an attention-seeking tweet.

 

I’ve struggled with addiction and even if he says he was joking it feels like attention seeking. Look at me I’m an addict too type of behavior. But whatever.

 

Joke or not, the tweet he's replying to kind of proves my point.
