I appreciate it alot when comics stray for the normal standup routine and it turns out well.

 

I'd say it's partially what Shrek says, and also just the typical "this got very popular so it's easy to hate on it" backlash.

 

When someone gets critical praise for taking a risk and having it be well received, the people not taking risks get angry and lash out.

Absolutely. Or We Can Be Heroes since one of those characters is a focus in SHH.

 

Well there are definitely yikes moments that haven't aged well, so I dont want to put my foot in my mouth and say it's the best (), but yeah, it's a good place to start imo. Two of the characters he does on SHH have spin offs, the private school girl is one (on hbo). Netflix has his Lunatics show too
