I watched the first one and a little bit of the second one. Not as good as his old stuff but still solid. I'll be returning to both of them soon.

 

I was hoping someone would comment on his accusations of Key and Peele for ripping off something he "created."

 

It was one line out of the whole hour. I completely forgot about it tbh.

I think someone posted that a page back. I didn't read into it too much. In regards to the special, though, it was one line.

 

Oh yea I'm aware, just thought this was worthy of discussing.

 

He just says "I have to watch Key and Peele do my show every night."

And as far as the specials go I thought Deep In The Heart of Texas was hilarious and Age of Spin was really entertaining but not quite as laugh out loud funny.
Dave is my favorite standup ever so I assume I'll like anything he does.

 

We just discussed it a page or two back, feel free to join in.

 

Personally I feel like the K&P comments are completely misguided and Chappelle needs to chill.

Should he have thanked Eddie Murphy and SNL at the end of every Chappelle show?

 

I think he's referring to the pre-recorded sketches? I know Mad TV did this with things like Kenny Rogers' Jackass and the Sopranos stuff. The difference is that Chappelle presented them to the audience, that's about it. Did SNL do anything that wasn't in front of an audience? I know they've done that more recently.

 

I don't know if the analogy is 1 to 1, but my point is that everything was influenced and evolved from something else. K&P clearly didn't steal Chappelle's show or ideas.

He said "I've been watching them do my show for the last 5 years." - BUT IT'S NOT HIS SHOW - It's a different show with different creative voices - Not to mention, Chappelle willingly walked away from his show.

 

Oh I completely agree with you. I am curious as to what he means exactly, because he thinks he came up with the "format." From the Variety article, I think he's referring to the lengthy sketches or something?

Key and Peele didn't make their name off of Chappelle since their show came out nearly a decade after The Chappelle Show ended.

 

tbh the Key and Peele comments are completely harmless compared to some of the bits in the show

Anyone hear Stanhope's story about his mother's "suicide"? It's weird to write it, but I laughed out loud during that story. I guess this is in regards to some of Chappelle's material. I have stuff fall flat but nothing he said was too offensive to me.

Jeselnik and Tosh both nailed it - nothing is funny about certain situations, until you write a good joke about it.
