Went down a rabbit hole of reaction videos to Bo Burnham songs (namely Can’t Handle This and All Eyes On Me) by psychotherapists on YouTube and it has me hankering for something new from him. I wonder if he will ever come around to performing live again or what he might be working on.
Take this with a grain of salt but a casting call for something that he is allegedly directing with a working title of "OUTSIDE" went up in the last few weeks Bo Burnham to Direct ‘Outside’? — World of Reel If it's real, I find it hard to believe he would do an unrelated project called Outside after doing Inside.... but that would be a great name for a tour or live special...
Called this a long time ago when I noticed he was following bunch of the Ben Shapiro/tucker Carlson guys on twitter. This was back when it was still twitter too.
It feels like everything he’s done since he blew up and gained industry clout/power has been pretty heavily aimed at red state Middle America audiences. The premise for his movie is so dated and hokey in a coded “return to the 90s/2000s non-PC culture” toxic way that it wouldn’t surprise me if his team explored him headlining a white remake of Juwanna Mann at some point in the process. And his “Nate rate” stuff feels like corny Christian movie marketing. I liked his semi-recent special where he was in the round. I have been bummed ever since as he has had more creative control over his career and chosen to become even less subtly conservative than a Tooth and Nail band.
Yeah. I think it was assumed Nate was conservative. But also, he's friends with big liberals like John Mulaney and the SNL folk and his stand-up is like almost purposely not political. Pretty disappointing, but not totally unexpected.
I canceled my Netflix subscription in January and between the roast, Tom Segura’s show, the Hinchcliffe special and this - it becomes a better decision everyday.
