Guys, specifically Chris, just wore me down too much. Idk if it got any better but they spent so much time willfully misreading comments/situations to try to mine laughs. There are enough psychos out there that you don’t need to do that
It’s gotten better but still happens from time to time. Bryan still finds some of the most insane people and his personal stories are almost always more insane.
I don't really track that kind of thing but these are my faves: ManDogPod AOAOAOA Straightiolab So True Ziwe What are we Even Doing? Royal Court Stavvy's World
Yeah, I took a break and just returned to see what guests I've missed. Have been listening based on that/topic. I don't know why, but them doing the same bits over and over and over every episode grates on me so much more than it does on Doughboys
i think more than anything else tho i am still listening to the discog of the teacher's lounge. prolly will stay that way forever, old slobs 4 lyfe
Bryan is an insane person and Chris is a good foil to it, but he just tries so hard to force it instead of letting the crazy come out. Part of the reason Nick and Mitch's dynamic works is because it all comes about naturally with the discussion, or it is so forced by one that it gets called out by the other.
I still like guys but Chris constantly interrupting drives me fucking insane. Bryan: this review is fr— Chris: WOAH WOAH WOAH HANG ONNNN LIKE 19 times an episode
Guys really depends on how tired or stoned Chris is on the day they record. There are some, like the PFT or Gabrus episodes, where he’s great and others where he doesn’t know the subject but wants to pretend he does and constantly interrupts the guest that I find grating. He has mostly improved, though.
I just want to put some pro-Chris positivity out here. I think he’s funny and has consistently improved through the duration of the podcast
I like Chris. He can be annoying and interrupt sometimes but Bryan will steamroll when Chris and a guest are riffing sometimes to get to the next post he has.
I generally like Chris too, I just feel like shoehorning "Bryan is actually a swinger" or whatever bit into every episode regardless of topic just to get a reaction out of the guest is tiresome, especially when the reaction is always just confusion and nothing particularly entertaining happens as a result. edit: it's almost like insistence of lore instead of naturally letting bits recur or come up in front of new guests like Doughboys does
That’s fair but Bryan will also just randomly say he’s 17 inches soft and the guest has no idea why he’s saying that.
It's just kind of Chris' personality. He likes busting Bryan's balls and sometimes it unfortunately distracts from the show a bit.
I liked the set design and visual aesthetic of the Sarah Squirm special but I thought it was oddly tame. The jokes, individually, are pretty obvious faux-gross anti-comedy bits that I feel like we’ve all seen and heard before. The only thing that made it feel different or unique for me was the sheer quantity of the jokes and the unrelenting pace. Also the crowd being the most stereotypical Brooklyn comedy fans was funny. I think I tapped out maybe halfway through so if there was a turn or grand finale that went above gross-out street jokes and anti-comedy bits, my review does not factor that in. I was hoping for stuff that would genuinely unsettle or shock the audience rather than it being more about the sheer quantity of the mild faux-gross bits.
I wonder if the SNL pivot has tamed her personal comedy some. I’ve been curious about that special but bummed to hear that review
When I saw her live last year she mostly screamed and showed some gross videos she made. It was entertaining but I was pretty exhausted by the end. felt like there were definitely some older people who just knew her from SNL and weren’t prepared
