Scott’s fine. He just gets on my nerves. I just think PFT’s the best.

PFT kinda gets on my nerves at times too. Never listened to threedom though.

Yeah, I stopped listening to Threedom years ago. I don’t need more podcasts where it’s just people talking over each other.

Scott’s humor over the last few years is just be as obnoxious as possible, which is a bummer because he’s really funny when he isn’t incredibly annoying

I also hardly listen to anything with Scott or PFT anymore either. Really just the best of CBB and then random podcast appearances.

There’s an older guard of UCB, like the 90s-2010 elders of whom Lapkus I think might be the youngest of, who kinda experienced the last wave of the comedy entertainment world being lucrative and IMO are kinda Gen X-y, frozen-in-1995 liberals who give off a very “I got mine”/pulling the ladder up vibe to me.

They aren’t out and out boomer conservatives but they seem to often fall right of center on class issues and, from my own experience being around there in person in the late 2000s, they were way way way less inclusive and progressive as a whole. There were a lot of situations where they’d gatekeep who could be at social events and be kinda out and out dicks to people not in their inner circle. Everyone was nice to me but I was like a 21 year old kid who a few of them liked so I was able to hangout but it eventually wore on me how kinda shitty they could be to other people.

The teachers, who are some of the folks in the CBB podcast spheres now, were kinda weird with students too, acting like all students were groupies or something and they’d often not learn our names and avoid us if they saw us before or after class. I get some students do cross boundaries but I was in classes where they acted aloof and distant with the whole class, like they were too cool or popular to engage with us. And you hear that sometimes with how they talk about their listeners like they’re icked out by them.

There was/is a non-gender-specific ‘mean girl’ vibe and outdated-but-still-self-righteous Clinton-era liberalism amongst that older guard and I can’t help but hear it poke out at times, even amongst folks who are very funny and generally pleasant 95% of the time on the mic.

Want to also say that, I know the 2010 and later UCB folks much less personally, but they seem WAY more chill and open and nice as teachers and like their politics fall further left. From what I can tell, they’ve addressed a lot of the toxic stuff from that earlier era.

Series 20 of Taskmaster continues to rule even with comedians I've never heard of before

That's my favorite part of the show. You start with 5 unknowns and a few eps in, you care deeply about all of them. It never fails.

Saw Bargatze last night in Cleveland. Was pretty disappointed with his last Netflix special and I think he mostly bombed the Emmys, but he was great last night. Openers (who I had never heard of) were great too. Graham Kay and Julian McCullough.

I tend to know all of them as a Brit, but last season my favourite contestant was the only one I hadn't heard of - Stevie Martin. This season I hadn't heard of Phil at all, so it's nice when that happens!

I actually went to a filming of the new season (21) and without giving it away there's another person who is from the US and is the most famous of the five contestants. But I couldn't work out how I knew them at all lol. Took me ages and then it clicked.

The cast was good. There’s a person on it I don’t usually care for, comedy-wise, but they were really fun on my ep. And the person in the spoiler might be the most famous contestant they’ve ever had outside of the UK. Which is really exciting.
