There’s an alternate version of my life where I choose the dark path of being an edge lord but I’m not living on that timeline. Thankfully, at some point there in my early 20s, I instead chose to trust the chaos of the universe and I got really vulnerable and a lot of good things started to happen in my life, like meeting my wife, finding out my hobby was actually something I could do as a career, and protecting my peace by cutting out a toxic parent. This was all preceded, however, by maybe a year of flirting with doing open mics and mimicking some dark and gross tropes born out of insecurity and anger. Very glad I didn’t do it more than a handful of times and that I had no success or validation. TL;DR: I never listened to cum town.
Yeah, I remember feeling pretty happy about the one time Dasha dunked on that right-wing reporter who was asking her a bunch of “gotcha” questions about socialism. Then it went downhill from there.
Stores with Chris Gethard is a great listen. Still becoming one of the first pods I put on at the beginning of the week
Somebody (Stand up and Mad TV alumn Bryan Callen) finally pushed back on Joe Rogan's dumb horseshit on air and Rogan fucking lost it. The Maron stuff and the YouTube video essays on him going viral are pushing him over the edge.
the theory seems to be that callen is close enough now to feel comfortable pushing back on joe. callen is also a top-tier loser as we all know so doubtful it's a fruitful controversy in any way
watching the rogansphere crumble is providing me with schaudenfraude i didn't think possible. truly joyous to inhale these podcast video essays on youtube lmao
I celebrate any pushback to Rogan, but (not that I expect anyone to be up on a loser like Bryan Callen), but Callen is an accused rapist who shouldn’t have a platform. But truly, two things can be true - Callen’s an awful person, but it’s good when anyone in the Rogansphere pushes back on his bullshit.
i also still silently listen to c town clips quite often. one of my most toxic traits to be sure. hard to reconcile with my trans identity/self-love sometimes, but in terms of joke creation nick and stav are just untouchable and i will likely always be fans for that especially as their careers and personalities evolve. nothing really makes me cry laughing like a mullen impression...do i suck for that? probably a little
Same and agreed. Nick Mullen is a generational riffer, the stuff he comes up with top of the dome is wild, and like I said previously he is naturally the funniest of all the Cumtown guys. Think of the career he could have had if he wasn't such a weird nihilistic antisocial edgelord.
The Rogansphere stuff is so wild to watch. My brother pulled me into that and Kill Tony back in like, idk, 2013? When Father John Misty guested on the Duncan Trussell podcast? And now Duncan is a Catholic with Thiel ties? Danny Brown used to pop up on Joey Diaz's podcast, and now Joey Diaz is congratulating Bryan Callen and Chris D'Elia on living their lives post-MeToo? (Not making that one up, it's an insane clip). So much insane fuckery. Like, none of these guys were saints obviously (or particularly funny for that matter), but the downfall is pretty endearing to witness
Legitimately think I could stomach Rogan in an alternate universe where he never dabbled with politics and straight-up sutck to 3-hour dumb guy podcasts with like, UFO researchers lol. But conspiracy culture has also been co-opted, unfortunately. No Fun Allowed.
It’s so sad, embarrassing, capitalistic ànd political (tho lbr the last two are the same). I def remember kill tony ànd Duncan tRussell coming into my orbit like a decade ago ànd the context felt like they were yeah, almost dirt bag left?? Now it feels diametrically opposed.
Yeah I mean years ago the Big Jay Oakerson/KIll Tony crew were on the left because they were vulgar and they cursed and the right used to be anti-vulgarity. "Will Smith don't gotta curse in his raps to sell records" type comedians. Those goalposts have obviously shifted lol
Maron was singing Elephant Graveyard's praises on a recent WTF. Said he reached out to the guy to try to get him on one of his final run episodes but it probably won't happen. Compared him to Adam Curtis.
I think its partially because the Elephant Graveyard creator wants to stay anonymous. I don't think it is known who is actually behind the channel. I assume Maron would not release his actual name but I don't think the guy wants to take any chances.
Everything I have seen from Gianmarco is so solid "this has been a terrifying week for me, I am also a crowd work comedian. It's supposed to be comedian destroys heckler, not the other way around. I have had worse outdoor college gigs believe you me"
