As you might expect, Mulaney stans are taking this news in a healthy, not weird at all manner

 

I just hope he’s really doing as well as he seems to be.

 

Yeah, I really hope has friends like Seth that are holding him accountable. He reminds me a lot of several friends that are addicts that I’ve had to intervene on and the road for all of them has been very tough.

 

Yeah the people that have been speculating about him since winter 2020, and also judging him and shit, really need to stop what they're doing. Like I said, he seems to be doing better, and I hope that that's actually the case.

 

Seth's a good guy. Glad Mulaney seems to be doing better.

 

Echoing how amazing of a friend Seth seems to be. I didn't realize until this whole thing came to a head how incredibly toxic Mulaney's fanbase was, I always figured that internet comedy nerds were most of his fanbase but he has a lot of younger people in apparent parasocial relationships with him that are being really insensitive about his recovery because of some of the choices he's made. I just really hope he's okay and that he can stay on a good path

 

That reminds me a lot of watching Ralphie May on the first season of "Last Comic Standing," which was in 2003, where his set was all anti-PC, whining that gay people shouldn't have their own day to celebrate and that we should bomb the shit out of Afghanistan so we can get cheap gas. You could see the fault lines forming with comics who aligned with that kind of humor and others that were like "No, this is bullshit."

Got super nervous there for a second. In 2021 I feel like the very last thing you want to read is something described as "[X Comedian] has some thoughts about comedy and 9/11" lmao

 

I do not miss him at all. He was a real piece of shit who would have been even shittier in this climate.
