I feel like it's being severely overlooked since it's on TBS and was just dumped to their app, but if you have the ability to watch it, I highly suggest it. Great sketch comedy show.

 

I bought season 1 of Wonder Showzen on prime today after seeing it mentioned here, so thank you very much for that! Holy shit I forgot/never realized how funny it really is. If I'm not at the silent cackle stage, I'm pausing it because I can't hear it over my laughter. Well worth the $10, half way through episode 2 I felt it already paid for itself.

That would be 100% right in line with Dave Chappelle, who the public at large continues to give a free pass for homophobia and transphobia.

 

yeah his last specials had boatloads of homophobia and transphobia. I wonder if this is something he’ll ever not fuck up on.

 

Its a bummer, Dave has some of the best commentary on race, it clearly comes from a place of passion, as well as knowledge. He's very informed and aware of what's going on, and is able to put things in words that so few others can.

At the same time, his homophobic/transphobic material all feels lazy and offensive because he clearly does not know much about those issues. He's not informed, he's not aware, and everything he says feels so much more half assed and poorly thought out regarding LGBT issues.

Its such a bummer because he's show he can be articulate and passionate and well-informed on one issue, which leads to great comedy and the ability to change people's minds and shape conversations. On the other hand he's making things for a whole group of people because he doesn't know what he's talking about.

 

it's so unfortunate that the point he's making about celebrity culture - which is a good one - has to have all that homophobia attached to it!

 

When he started referring to the LGBTQ community as "Alphabet People" that was pretty much my cue to stop listening to anything he has to say anymore

 

I discovered Wonder Showzen randomly when it was airing and it was definitely one of the formative shows for my sense of humor in high school

 

Even if someone wants to set aside how shitty it is to be homophobic or transphobic, that material as jokes isn’t funny or insightful, so what is even the point from a stand up POV? What does riffing on don lemon “being gay” even add to that bit? It’s a real bummer cause it brings out so many progressive people I know burying their heads in the sand on this simply because it Dave and he is such a good comedian and that is frustrating to watch.

It adds nothing, its lazy and pointless. Its not even shock value for how tame it is, just completely unnecessary and smart to be cut.

He has absolutely no idea what trans people are going through, so many black trans people being murdered right now. Its disgusting and whenever he makes a comment its clear he has no idea.
