for anyone who has done any type of stand-up, how do you workshop your stuff? I find myself talking through bits in the car during my commute lol

 

Record yourself doing a tight five minute set in your home. Upload it to YouTube. Adjust your set based on the comment feedback. If someone posts “kill yourself”, please, don’t kill yourself.

Edit: kidding aside, I’ve never tried it myself, never will. But the advice I’ve heard from seasoned comics is take every open mic opportunity possible. If you can get booked, take every one. Record your sets and listen back later and see what worked, what didn’t. The one season of Last Comic Standing I watched, when they interviewed every comic that got screen time, they say they’ve done stand-up a minimum of 7 years, so if you truly want to do it, keep at it.

 

Do people really upload videos of them performing stand up sets to no one lol why on earth

It's pretty great! But I also enjoy Hailee Steinfeld in most everything, so I'm biased.
