yeah when I see PFT 6 years ago that was probably his last stand up, he seems to be doing mainly improv now which fine he's great at it

If we're talking Rory and Jon Dore, this gem...

 

I love Laboring Under Delusions but that works great because it's more storytelling than traditional stand up jokes. I'm sure you've seen his half hour from the late 90s where a pudgy PFT drinks 6 beers on stage in half an hour to the point of beer seeping from his tear ducts.

 

Did you read that oral history of Comedy Bang Bang? I was stunned to learn PFT never tried improv before. He's probably the first person I would list as my favorite improvisors

I feel like he mentioned that on Spont too, yeah I know, Adomian too

 

For all-time, I like Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Maria Bamford, John Mulaney, Patton, Chappelle, Hannibal, Bo Burnham, and while too much of his material is actively atrocious morally, I don't know that I have ever laughed as hard at stand up as Eddie Murphy's Delirious and Raw.

 

I'm pretty sure Bo Burnham is my favorite of all time. Other modern ones that I'd call my favorites include Hannibal Buress, John Mulaney, Bill Burr (if we're counting him as modern), Louis CK (same with Burr), and Jerrod Carmichael.

Favorite older ones are Chappelle, Norm, Chris Rock, and Craig Ferguson (not sure where to classify him between the two kind of eras in my post lol)


And yeah despite some horribly aged material, Eddie Murphy's two specials are fucking amazing

 

Mulaney and Birbiglia have my favourite stand up specials
And while they aren't comedians I think Ben Schwartz, Zach Woods and Jenny Slate are some of the funniest people

 

Oh and Lauren Lapkus is amazing and hilarious in everything

David Cross is one of my favorite stand ups

 

I grew up listening to David Cross, George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg, so they'll always have a special place in my heart. I'd have to think about more recent favorites.

Any love for Henry Rollins? He's another one I grew up with. Some of his views may be slightly outdated, but his ability to tell stories is unparalleled (see: Eric the Pilot). I could (and have) listened to him talk for hours.

 

Brett Gelman is such a gem. I could listen to him argue with Scott all day.

 

This is my favorite opening to a special ever. I think this was his first hour he ever filmed and it was for HBO. It still kills me.

 

Yeah, this kills me every fucking time. Starting to feel like it's time for a Mr. Show rewatch.

Well in case anyone was wondering, creator Sam Hyde recently took to Youtube to offer $5,000 to anyone who can identify and dox the person who maced a nazi during the Charlottesville protests, alongside making other vague videos about "them" in triple parentheses (an antisemitic symbol). I'm pretty sure most people have realized he and his fans are shitbird bigots, but I'd rather it not fly under the radar.
