I think he's genuinely hilarious as himself on Who Charted when he's not constantly ranting about some arbitrary argument he made up. (I stopped listening partly because his Ocean vs Space rants that he brought up multiple times an episode for a year straight)

Oh hell yeah. So many great eps in there and it was so weirdly difficult to listen to any episode older than a few months before. I need to go back and listen to the string of episodes PFT did as Werner

 

I think there's an ep from early 2012 or 2013 where he's the sole guest and plays himself and two other characters

There's one with PFT as himself and Werner, and also Chris Hardwick. It was pretty good, but the Werner Pete Holmes ep is my favorite and I haven't heard it in a long time.

 

Yep, that's a classic. There's also a more recent ep where PFT, Adomian, and Daniel Van Kirk each play 3 different characters.

I also completely forgot about the episode with Morgan Spurlock, Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Mulaney, and Birbiglia. That's gotta be one of the best podcast lineups of all time.

 

Any other episodes y'all would rec? I've never listened but he's doing a live show at a festival here later in the summer that I'll likely go to and wouldn't mind being a little familiar

 

I haven't listened to many because I didn't like to pay for old episodes, but anything with Jon Hamm/Kumail/Scotty Auks/"Mark Wahlberg"/PFT. The show is so perfect for Kumail's quick wit.

One of my favs is season 6 with Paul Rudd, Jon Hamm, Morgan Spurlock, Mike Birbiglia and John Mulaney

 

Do you prefer the games or the chaos? There was a recent Edgar Wright episode and he's maybe an ideal guest. Also the one with Danny Trejo is real fun

 

Or the epic TJ Miller/Pete Holmes/Jeff Garlin eps

 

The episode that got me hooked back in the day was TJ, Pete, Graham, and Dan Gabriel. I definitely suggest going to a live show. I've been probably a dozen times and if it's not hilarious and fun, it's an awkward spectacle.

 

Episode 654 is a lot of fun and and establishes a Kumail/Marc Maron feud that may or may not be legitimate.

Also, any of the LA 12 Guests of Christmas episodes are great

 

Don't even know the format so I couldn't tell you. Though I am vaguely aware just from this thread that some sorta games are involved.

To this point all of my exposure to Doug has come from Super High Me, some early CBB/CDRR and a handful of Getting Doug With Highs

 

You can't go wrong then, I'd say pick some guests you like. I got into through the Pete Holmes eps, but then loved some of the Samm Levine/Jon Hamm/Tournament of Champions eps where people were just really good at the games.

 

Listen to the older episodes of DLM. The show jumped the shark around the time that the Leonard Maltin app died and Doug changed the main game to Last Man Stanton.

I still listen and enjoy the show, but it's a much different show now than it was a few years ago.

Of the more recent guests, Martin Sheen is someone I don't hear mentioned a lot, but I think he's always a great guest... also Sean Jordan (shout out All Fantasy Everything podcast)
