Didn't one of them not understand it was a joke and thought they were genuinely mad at them?

 

I saw John Hodgman at a Mountain Goats show once

 

Yeah I think Erin was actually like tearing up a little cus she thought they were for real getting scolded, which was super endearing imo hah

 

It was outstanding! My wife is the one who listens to his podcast/read his book. I'll catch snippets of it while she gets ready for work, etc. I like the idea of the podcast and I've enjoyed his roles in The Office and Broad City, so I figured it would be fun.

He did about 10-15 minutes of stand-up, which was great. Then the whole phone call thing and the timer started. He had his computer out and the show had its own hashtag and the audience tweeted questions to him and the caller the entire time that he would periodically read to her/us. He gave plenty of disclaimers about the call having the potential to go horribly wrong or be super awkward, but that's part of the show. Some girl in NY ended up answering and it went pretty slow for about 10-15 mins while she talked about her work and whatnot. Then she moved on to her living situation....and things just got hilarious from there. By the end of the night, there were 300 people here in Seattle cheering this girl in NY on to perform acts of rebellion towards her landlord (such as throwing avocado pits off of her balcony while whispering "Seattle sends its regards"). It ended with Chris and her singing a mashup of The Cars and Eminem.

Afterwards we talked to him, bought a shirt, got a pic. It was wild. I'm a fan for sure now.

 

Saw him here in Seattle too, great show.

 

this sucks, but NBC also passed on Kimmy Schmidt so I guess there's some hope

Gethard taping tonight was great! Highly recommend going if you get a chance, it's unlike anything you could experience. Our taping tonight was very very close to being a train wreck cause the caller was super withholding, then all the sudden it turned and it was brilliant. Plus the standup bit before hand was great!

 

Did his friend come out and do his stand-up before the call?

 

The new season of Bajillion is very funny
