I consider it more of a one man show than a standup special.

I guess I would agree with you. It's just not something that is really the norm. I give him credit for the uniqueness and again, much of it was funny. I personally thought the emotional stuff was a bit much and over the top and not something that should have been marketed as a Netflix stand-up.

I dunno. Personally, I thought it was brilliant. I get wanting non-stop laughs out of "stand-up", but my favorite comics are the more introspective/personal ones.

I think trying something with stand-up new and different should be encouraged, I feel like every comedian has had audiences be like " boo this isn't funny"

I think Bo Burnham has gotta be one of the most innovative comedians and really shows what stand-up comedy can be

I was going to mention Bo in my post, but yeah, he's definitely pushing the limits. Probably my favorite (working) comic right now.

Speaking of comics doing things differently, Rory Scovel is another one of my favorites, that I think tries to experiment and do unconventional things. Only he focuses more of being funny and doesn't get quite as serious.

I feel like Rory is next level while working in the conventions of standup, whereas Bo and to a lesser extent Neal's show are working more in the realm of performance art.

Rory has perfected the art of standup, I love his vinyl release and how he used the format in and of itself as a vehicle for bits.

I guess my point is, there is a difference between being creative/innovative/unique on stage and just telling depressing stories for a long period of time on stage. I had no problems with the 3-different mic set up. I thought the one-liners despite not being "LOL" funny was entertaining and worthwhile. Like-wise with the stand-up mic.

I don't need my comics to be knee-slapping hilarious from start to finish, in fact, most of my favorite comedians aren't. I said in my original post that the concept was unique and interesting, it was the content that I found a bit odd.

Sidenote, I've seen just a little of Rory's work (mostly late night appearances) and I think he's pretty funny/entertaining. Does he have any stand-up specials online or netflix?

Everything Rory does is perfect. Even his late night spots are unique and refreshing.

Rory's newest special is on Seeso. I saw him perform it live twice and have watched it on Seeso two or three times and it still makes me laugh uncontrollably. There are many bits that my gf and I quote often. He also has a vinyl release called Live at Third Man Records and his first album, available digitally or on CD, Dilation.

Also, does anyone know if Live at Third Man Records is available anywhere other than vinyl. I don't have a record player so I kinda missed out on that one.

Fucking awesome news about Craig Ferguson. I'll definitely have to go out of my way to listen to it since I don't listen to the radio very often but so glad he's gonna be doing a daily show again in some form, even if I would have preferred a TV show

I liked Brennan's serious/emotional stuff but I found most of his jokes very not funny.

I watched this also, and I like Neal from The Champs podcast with Moshe Kasher (now defunct) and when he's been on Joe Rogan's podcast I think 2 or 3 times.

I've seen his stand up before also, and it was good, but this was weird.

He brings up the Chappelle thing a lot, and for good reason. He obviously got the short end of the stick with that show but mainly because he wasn't one of the performers. He had a few bit parts during the show's run but nothing notable or interesting. I didn't realize he was a "50/50" writer as he's stated multiple times.

When he was on Rogan's podcast, it was during the ketamine treatment he mentions in the special. He goes on and on about never knowing the feeling of being happy. I just don't buy it, it's a little too hard to believe.

The special was good, and the "emotional" parts were interesting, but I wouldn't watch it again.

I think the things that Ming is saying on CBB are funny but the accent is such a strange choice
